Hey there. Nice to meet you folks. I'm actually pretty unfamiliar with Kpop in general. I'm typically more into extreme metal/punk (primarily death metal but also black metal, grindcore and a few others), but also always been interested in all sorts like shoegaze, dreampop, synthwave, post-rock, hip-hop and progressive rock. I've known about K-pop for a long while of course, but as a very politically-minded student, I was super impressed by the K-pop community's actions with regards to supporting BLM and shutting down racism online. You did yourselves proud there. Spamming the Dallas PD snitch app with fancams until it crashed was just... chef kiss motion.

As a result, I wanted to give it a go and see what it's about, and from what I've seen it seems to be about more than simply the music. So I thought I'd sign up here and have poke around.

Is there somewhere here where I can ask for music recommendations? Or would anyone be willing to offer me suggestions in this thread?

My guess is I'm probably most likely to enjoy hip-hop oriented groups. I've listened to BTS - Wings and Lose Yourself: Tear and I enjoyed those quite a bit. Outro: Tear is a banger.

Welcome! One group that isn't mainstream kpop that I enjoy is Bursters, they're more alt rock and given what you enjoy I think you might like them.



You might also enjoy some of BAP's stuff, they're a bit more hip hop like BTS are but they dabbled in many genres. BTS and BAP also are known for having a lot of lyrics about society, mental health, ect that you might like. I would recommend looking up the lyrics to What The Hell by BAP if that sounds interesting to you and then look up the meaning behind the movie its based on, which is called Silenced or The Crucible. It's a Korean movie about Korean society.
