the only thing closed to normalisation that I have ever seen was in the Vikings and I wouldn´t say they were trying to normalise it or glorify it, I think they were simply trying to show the ritual for what it was. people genuinely believed they would reach Valhalla if they sacrificed themselves. I wouldn´t say people felt totally okay with it even in those times, after all, we are all animals with instincts but if you do believe something so firmly to even sacrifice yourself than you are just out of normalcy. I think most people would be scared and think that person crazy but would never say so.
same with human sacrifices in Ancient Greece etc. it´s barbaric and viewed so by the majority but unfortunately since the world is built on power, most people would just be happy not to die themselves. I´m pretty sure once it hit home, they would at least try to fight the ordeal.
even though Game of Thrones went as far as sacrifice a child, the character (Stannis I believe?) was after that pretty much depicted as a crazy monster and was viewed as a true villain. btw, that scene was the most disturbing scene in the whole show along with the skinning of the elderly woman. damn, that was disgusting. but again, he wasn´t glorified, he was showed as a total madman.
