@KAZUCHI @AuGamer1987 this is kind of an AU, where Wonho leaves the industry to become a teacher instead of just going solo. Plus, instead of him leaving the group for the silly-ass reason that was "he owed a friend money", he gets caught in a dating scandal. I mean, that's still silly imo, but it's still way more common of a reason to leave, right?
Prologue
The sun shone through the window of Soojin Seon’s delivery room at the hospital as she and Hoseok Lee, her boyfriend, sat in bed together with their newborn daughters, Hayoon and Hayoung. Hoseok was having a skin-to-skin moment with Hayoon while Soojin nursed Hayoung.
“Are you afraid?” Soojin asked her boyfriend.
Hoseok raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean? That we’ll get caught?”
“Yeah… I can’t leave (G)I-dle – they’re my besties! I’m pretty sure you feel the same about Monsta X.”
“I do, yeah.” Hoseok scratched the back of his neck to cure an itch. “But as long as you keep wearing those baggy clothes and as long as I don’t share anything, we’ll be good.”
Soojin frowned. “I don’t know, I think our fans are starting to catch on, because I never wear baggy clothes, even off-stage. God only knows when Cube will catch wind.”
“And Starship,” Hoseok reminded her. “I’m not too scared, though. I mean, I can always keep tabs on my members, and so can you on yours.”
Just then, Hoseok’s phone rang. The caller was Hyunwoo Sohn, Monsta X’s leader.
“Hey, dude,” he answered. “Are you calling about the babies? Do you guys want to visit?”
“This isn’t about the babies, Hoseok,” Hyunwoo said. He had a less than happy tone to his voice. In fact, it was bordering on fear. “The fans know about your rendezvous with Soojin, and they’re not happy.”
Hoseok’s blood ran cold. If he wasn’t nervous about potentially being kicked out of the group, he sure was now. “Bro, are you serious?!”
Hyunwoo sighed. “I’m afraid I am being serious. Netizens from all over the world are absolutely slamming you for keeping the pregnancy a secret.”
“What’s wrong, Sarang?” Soojin asked with fear and concern in her voice.
“I’ll put him on speaker; it’s Hyunwoo,” Hoseok said. He did just that, then asked Hyunwoo if he was still there.
“Yeah, I’m here,” Hyunwoo responded.
“So, what were you saying about our fans?”
“They’re slamming you for this rendezvous with Soojin.”
Soojin turned as pale as the bedsheets as soon as those words came out of Hyunwoo’s mouth. “What about me?” she asked, her voice already trembling.
“I haven’t looked into what your fans are saying yet, but knowing the brutality of the fandom, they’re probably shaming you, too. Hoseok, I implore you to get on Twitter and set the record straight before Starship blows this out of proportion! You, too, Soojin.”
Hoseok was sweating like a pig at this point. “But I’ve never done this before! Monsta X is otherwise unproblematic!”
“Up until now,” Hyunwoo reminded him. “You should see what people are writing on Twitter. There’s even a trending hashtag about you.”
Hoseok looked at Soojin, who simply told him to get it over with. He sighed and turned his attention back to his call. “Okay, fine; I’ll do it.”
Once he hung up, Hoseok handed Hayoon off to Soojin before he logged into Twitter to see what was up.
Sure enough, almost his entire feed was filled with nasty comments and death threats. There was some content about other stuff, but it mainly consisted of things like “Wonho should’ve stayed off of Soojin”, “Wonho and Soojin never should’ve hooked up and started dating”, etc. After about two minutes of scrolling, Hoseok had had enough.
“That’s it – I quit!” he shouted, thrusting his phone at the floor.
“Sarang, what’s the matter?” Soojin asked. “Is it that bad?”
“Never mind fessing up to the fans,” Hoseok said. “I’m just going to quit the group and maybe even the industry.”
Soojin gasped. “Hoseok, no! You could just leave the company and go solo. You don’t have to leave the industry!”
Hoseok stood up. “It’s something I need to do, Soojin. Maybe they’re right – I never should’ve met you; that’s what got us into this mess!”
“Are you saying what I think you’re saying?” Soojin asked. “Are you…?”
“I have to say goodbye to everything related to the industry and start fresh, and if it means breaking up with you, then so be it.”
“Well, I understand if you need to burn some bridges, but I don’t have to be one of them, do I?”
He headed towards the door to leave the room. “I’ll see you in court about the babies.”
After he announced that he was leaving the industry, Hoseok had his custody hearing with Soojin. The court ruled that Hoseok would have full custody, but Soojin would have visitation rights. Hoseok moved to the States afterwards, settling in a small town near Knoxville called Clinton. There, he went to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to study early childhood education, another dream career of his.
As for Soojin, her fans were less toxic about the situation, and she was able to stay in (G)I-dle up until her departure in 2021 to go solo.
