Can I be honest?
Idk why bts blew up. Like yes they’re talented. But they’re like every other boy group from their generation - btob, B1a4, Vixx, blockb, boys republic, boyfriend (lmao they all start with B <in korean Vixx is pronunced with a B sound>)

I guess social media is a huge part, but it’s just... why bts? Like any other group from the list could have blown up, and be wide loved.
I’m not hating on bts. I’m just wondering why they are so popular/blew up when they are just as talented and handsome as other boy groups.
well, we could say that about a lot of artists that blew up... why did twice blow up despite there being a shit ton of other girl groups doing the same concept? why did exo blow up despite there being other artists doing the exact same thing as them? why did Ariana grande blow up despite there probably being a shit ton of other talented ass singers out there? really I guess the answer is that these groups and artists are just special to some people. bp is a pretty well-rounded group but they're definitely not the best... but they are still growing? why? really a lot of blinks have said that its because they just ooze the IT factor that other groups lack. it's hard to pinpoint the exact reason why all of these artists blew up, but a good reason is that they have that IT factor that makes you want to follow them. some groups have it and some just don't.

and tbh bts always had a pretty good sound and tbh they always gave off a different vibe than the other bgs you mentioned in my opinion. as much as ppl like to downplay bts as a whole, they have RLLY good music and their concepts have always been pretty unique. bts are definitely not the best group in the world and there are probably others who are better than them in the talent department but as I said earlier, they have that IT factor that makes people want to follow them and some other groups just severely lack when it comes to that.

As the article says, no one has been able to pinpoint any one reason for a foreign boyband to find success in the West. But the overarching point of the article is clear: their positivity and relatability cannot be denied as factors. The article mentions their many charitable works as well as important messages they have expressed such as in the UN speech.

BTS members are really relatable and are all boys next door. ARMY love their chemistry, their humour and their accessibility. They spend a lot of time interacting with theirs fans.

Besides those things and despite you thinking they are all the same, there are other things that set BTS apart. The biggest of these is the artistic control they have over their music. Many of the songs are written in part or whole and produced in part or whole by them. Much of their music is unique, is not your tradtional love song and holds a lot of meaning. Many ARMY talk about how BTS' message caught their eye and brought them into the fandom.

They deal with social/political issues in theirs songs and they are mainly talking about theirs personal struggles. That’s why their music holds a strong emotional connection with the fans. Their discography conveys a tragic yet comforting view of human existence : everything is ephemeral and never last. Happiness don’t exist only moments of joy. Yet, BTS never fail to comfort their audience and give them hope. For example in the same album, Butterfly is about the fear of loosing a loved one and Run is about the acceptance of the end of a relationship.

BTS depict a lot of relatable struggles and share a cure at the same time. In a way, they are the cure.

So their message is universal and for a lot of ARMY, theirs songs are our home.

Their biggest strength is theirs performances. Even people who aren’t ARMYs say it. They never perform twice the same way. They are versatile performers, charismastic with a different charm for a lot of them and they are very energetic sometimes wild.

But let's look at it from another angle. Why not BTS? If you think all these boybands are the same, do you question why some are more popular than others? Is there some reason you think BTS in particular is undeserving of their position ? Honestly, answer me this, why are BTS the only ones called out on their success?
