How can people disagree with people being LGBT? (1 Viewer)

I genuinely can’t understand how someone can disagree with others being LGBT+. Not everyone is, and that’s totally normal. Straight, gay, whatever, you’re valid. But disagreeing with something someone can’t change… I don’t understand. Why would someone willing chose to be discriminated against? Against your religion? Fine, but isn’t respecting those around you also important? So I don’t understand hatred towards LGBT+ people. Are people that miserable or?

Yes, people are that miserable... Often times I don't understand but hating people doesn't make it easier or better.

Its okay to not understand, if respectful most people are willing to answer questions. I don’t understand being mean.

One thing I think a lot of these people fail to understand is that people have always been this way. LGBTQ+ people have always existed. It's not some new phenomenon or conspiracy or some dangerous operation to somehow ruin the lives of others. But there are clearly a lot of people who think along these lines, and it's honestly disturbing. The fact that society has got to the point where more and more LGBTQ+ individuals feel safe or at least somewhat secure enough to leave the closet is huge, it's progress. But it naturally opens up a lot of hatred as well, sadly.

Completely agree, we have become more open as a society. People feared coming out. However nothing is perfect, and there is still a long long way to go for acceptance. A century ago, even several decades ago, gay pride parades weren’t a thing. Now we are able to have them. Unfortunately in my area there have been some f-ed up people who organized an anti-pride parade

Or even worse, they do hateful things because they “love” the person and want to save them. I once had a family member go on a homophobic rant and when she was done told me it’s because she loves me and wants to make sure I don’t sin or whatever.

the key part of this when applied to public policy issues is that one must try to understand where the other side is coming from in order to truly emerge victorious

in terms of this particular issue it doesn't beholden people to state I don't understand or how can the other side do this to LBGT+ people etc etc - it also doesn't matter if we perceive the other side to be wrong or whatever because at the end of the day knowledge is power

It's because people are stupid and easy to brainwash into thinking the way powerful people want them to like while people focus on things like LGBTQ+ the most however you should also think that left handed people were considered demons and believed to be a natural evil let alone burning people for being a "witch" to which I find no magical properties in society now how weird.

When people don't understand something they will just make stuff up instead of trying to understand it like I can't explain the technicalities of a car but does that give me justification for making up some outrageous claim? No the appropriate action would just be saying I don't know.

The earth being flat, marijuana being evil, etc. there's plenty of stuff that when you look back in history was being propped up by lies from people just saying whatever because there was no easy way to fact check stuff like there is now so it was far easier to have fabrication spread as reality.

There is no better example for this than the current transgender mess as that's not tied to the bible it's tied to people saying they're paedophiles which is an old LGB rhetoric (search 1950s boys beware on YouTube) and people tying it to that might be fair to discuss like transpeople in sports and bathrooms however that discussion can be had reasonably without vilifying a whole group of people.

I have never seen anyone against it that wasn’t religious, and it’s almost always the most hypocritical people who are judgmental and go against what their own religion tells them to do. Their response to the matter isn’t right even according to the religion. A lot of it also stems from ingrained ignorance and indoctrination. There are also debates regarding this here like where transpeople fit and what’s considered discrimination, people all have their own opinions on that. I can understand disagreement when you consider religion and all that, but hatred or going out of your way to get in someone’s business about it isn’t right. Everyone’s differences should be respected.
