How do you feel about idols who support the CCP? (1 Viewer)

For me the only idol that I ever stanned (that supported the CCP) was Elkie. I didn't know that she was in favor of it until she announced it a few months ago, and now I don't really know how to feel about her after this. I'm aware that there's plenty of Chinese idols who are supportive of it, but how do you feel about them now? Were any of them your favorites? Did you unstan anyone over this?

I like some Chinese idols/actors - Lay, Xiao Zhan, Wang Yibo, Jackson Wang here and there and Lay and Zhan are known as those really proper Chinese citizens, straight A students, pioneers, stars in the youth organisations and always on the side of their country.
I cannot say I don´t feel itchy about it. I understand that they perhaps must support their country as they have families there and are probably well situated. I have heard that for Chinese to study in SK it is VERY expensive so basically all Chinese idols making in kpop are pretty rich, not just Chenle-rich-boy.
I can understand not wanting to put your family and your family business in danger, but the atrocities that are happening via such politics? It is hard to accept that, to turn a blind eye.
But also should regular people be responsible for their country politics?
I´m not sure, really. Should I judge (for example) Lay for his music? or should I judge him for his personality and politics? Can I ignore the fact that his country is killing and abusing thousands of people? That they are putting them in work camps? I can´t fully, can I? And yet ...

If I'm not mistaken Lay is an actual member of the CCP so there is that to deal with. Jackson also has come out recently in support of more suspicious opinions. Since I'm Chinese American but not actually culturally Chinese and haven't experienced what it is like to be Chinese in China, I feel like I cannot be the best judge of their situation.

But regardless you can bet I was really disappointed when they didn't support the protestors in Hong Kong. It is just hard to look at the situation with a completely nuanced view as the censorship and tight control that China has over basically everyone who has a career in their country is extremely strong. I don't agree with their stated political stances at all but I also can't find myself completely unstanning them because on a personal level they don't feel like horrible people.

It makes me quite uneasy I mean if they post stuff about supporting human right violations or other stuff that is against my morals..

In other hand I kinda get that they might not have choice. It might be even their company that makes those posts not them. But still it does go against my views too much.

I dont rly have bias who supports it though. Not that I have avoided stanning Chinese idols just ended up that way. All Korean expect couple thais.

like others, i can't find myself completely unstanning them, however i can't see them in the same way and i did feel very personally hurt in the case of the case of some idols who went beyond the line of not just condemning the Hong Kong protests but even directly insulted them and supported the HK Police's brutality like Lay (who just so happens to be also an ambassador member of the Communist Youth League of China). Even more so because my nation, while very far from there, has been affected in a very similar way and worse as a result of the CCP's policies.

And even then i can understand someone like Lay who was born and raised in China and under the party's propaganda a little bit more (even though not all native chinese idols go to such an extra mile so it's still not justifiable), but not someone like Jackson who was born and raised in Hong Kong, he was educated in an international school, his family lived in Hong Kong, his family, his town, his nation (because Hong Kong was almost like a whole different nation altogether from China in many ways and is still very different, at least for now), his family and his friends, the place that he was raised in and its citizens are the same people that China has been screwing over for years and now finally achieved it.

His business and career wasnt' reliant on mainland China, he was just as big in Korea if not more, yet not only did he criticize the boycott on Xinjiang cotton (which not every chinese idol did, not even those with contracts in China nor those with contracts with western companies that participated in the boycott) but also openly condemned the boycott on social media and sent a letter, etc. Lay's, however understandable it was, was still unjustifiable in my eyes, so you can imagine my opinion of Jackson's situation. Not all hong kong idols did the same things he did.

In many cases i understand, and i do understand that some of their families are at risk as well as their careers, but there are some cases that can definitely not be justified. Especially when they go to such an unnecessary extra mile like those two. And it hurts me even more because of how attached i felt towards those two in particular.

I feel like we had a thread about this a week ago
as a general rule of thumb, I'm more understanding of idols who are affiliated to the ccp or have a significant/majority chinese fanbase because they have their hands tied in that regard
most support is reposting the same govt post (ex the recent cotton one was the same support shown by all the idols that have been written about), which while iffy on its own, is reposted by everyone so whether it's an enforced rule or not, idk but I can see why some would feel pressured by their fanbase, or even themselves to repost when everyone around them is
I don't buy the govt will harm the family excuse though, because look at how fan chengcheng is thriving as fan bingbing got put under house arrest and disappeared for months lol, but the mob mentality on the internet is bad everywhere so I think that's the main source of pressure
it's when they take the support out of weibo that I'm more critical because there is no reason to do so
tdlr: idols like lay jackson and yuqi I'm more lenient towards, wtf elkie, victoria keep your thoughts on weibo and don't speak more than you need to

Disappointment but then again, chinese billionaires who criticise the CCP literally go missing like Jack Ma, for example who went missing for like 3 months after he criticised the CCP on something.

I don't think these idols have a choice but I'm sure amongst the idols who support the CCP some are genuine in their support, but I don't know which one though, so.
