How do you feel about parents who get their babies ears pierced? (1 Viewer)

my family does it, i even got my ears pierced at around 2-6 months. i think its okay since from what ive encountered, its more common to get ear infections when getting ur ears pierced at an older age. i would prolly do it to my future daughters, but i respect the ppl that decide to wait until theyre older.

I'd rather wait until my kids are older to get them pierced. That way they can tell me whether or not they actually want their ears pierced

I was born in 2009, back when you could still do this, but my mom got mine pierced in the hospital before we went home. So I personally think it's okay

Overall I don't judge parents who do it but I'm very grateful my parents didn't get my ears pierced.

well technically babies can't consent since they aren't capable of consenting

but regardless it's up to the parents and even if I would never do something like that to my baby I also wouldn't judge others if they wanted to do it for their babies

Maybe I could get it if it was for religious reasons or something but why is the default assumption that the child wants them with no proof of such? Even if there is a slightly higher chance of ear infections if pierced later, babies are definitely not immune to ear infections either and if you pierce babies by default that’ll be more piercings than if only children who can consent to some level got their ears pieced, which means infections may not necessarily differ from that logic. I’m not necessarily going to judge someone all that much for it but I just don’t understand the reasoning at all for piercing babies ears.

I'd say it's ok to do this at a young age, I had mines at the age 7 or 8 and it hurt, but given that, my ears are sensitive. I didn't like the feeling of that, plus I dont see why not? Eventually if they don't like, their ear holes will slowly close, my mother has told me this because she did my sister's ear pierced at a young age (months or so) and asked her why I (At that time) didn't have my ears pierced. I can see where some of us come from, but like every decision, the children will decide if they want to continue wearing earrings or not
I'd say it's ok for a baby girl but for a boy, when they get older, it should be up to them

In the country which I was born they do it almost as soon as the child is born if its a girl. And i got mine at that age but they closed up, so i re-did them when i turned 5 or 6.
It's not really a big deal imo. The parents will take care of it so it wont infect or anything, and most girls will want ear piercings anyway. Even if they didnt, just dont use it.

in our culture its customary to pierce a baby or infant's ears if it's a girl. my mom never got it done for me or my sisters though; not because she's against it perse, she just didnt see the point of it and i think i feel the same way. earlobe piercings, as long as they're done in a clean setting by a professional and taken care of properly, are safe and reversible so i dont think it's a big deal. i just don't understand why a baby needs earrings

i was a baby who had their ears pierced within a month old (southern catholic things xoxo)
