My threads won’t always be this sad I promise.

But anyways my mom and I are doing everything we can to find things to do outside the house. Everything in our house reminds us of my kitty, she had such a large presence in the house you can’t go anywhere without seeing something of hers or a favorite spot of hers etc… Today we’re running some errands and going to a zoo so hopefully that will be a nice distraction.

I’ll tell you from my experience, you can’t run away from grief or distract yourself. The best way to grieve is to tackle it head on and cry/feel emotions until you can’t anymore. Then eventually and hopefully you can move on.

as @chiefchilly1 said, you cannot run from it.

my bf passed in 2021 and let me tell you, i tried to run.

i did a damn good job too, i was able to hop from one guy to the next and even LIE to myself and act like it didn't happen.

lately i have run out of distractions, so now i've been addressing it in therapy and it's been very painful.

i won't lie, it's put me in a very dark place, and that's the worst aspect of grief. you have to look it in the face and see it for what it is. it's a shit feeling, but the longer you run, the more it builds up, and one day it will explode and destroy you. i've been struggling with my ability to provide therapy to others and not myself and sinking into a very hopeless place. you have to put yourself first now.

grief therapy is really helpful, but also using distress tolerance skills will be a must. balancing confronting your grief while moderating it will be key.

obviously some days will be harder than others, but the only way out is through.

please message me if you ever want to talk, i'm here for you. pet losses are the worst.

Uh I basically lose my shit for a day or two. My grandma passed away two years ago (I still can't believe it). I screamed when I found out which I think is dramatic of me but I just felt utterly devastated like my heart had been ripped out. I cried through the entirety of her funeral service I couldn't stop. It was like I couldn't hold it in at all, it was just pure and unadulterated sadness.

I don't think you can ever prepare for losing a loved one as much as you think you are ready for it-you never are actually ready. I've lost loved ones before but hers really hurt.

I lost my cat this past December and honestly, the grief of losing a pet hits very randomly for me. Like I used to rush to my bedroom at night because she would sneak into my room to sleep with me. I could never let her do it though because she had dementia and she'd get confused and keep me from sleeping. So I have this habit of if I get up in the night I rush so she doesn't sneak into my room.

I found myself doing it multiple times after she passed and then it would hit me that she wasn't even here anymore...

Sorry, I'm venting right now. I don't know if any of this is comforting for you.

I don't handle it, to be honest. I lost a person close to me last October, and every Monday/Friday I cry on the way to and during work because I think about him and wonder if he's still disappointed in me. My cat who passed away in August 2021, I still look at the places he would sleep every single day. I can't not look and I also can't look at his photos. My cat who passed in in August 2009, I can see his photos now but I cannot think about him. The sad truth is that I just exist miserably without them, and I haven't really found a way to fix this other than thinking "they would want me to be happy".
