In the note, shared internally and viewed by the New York Times, Brin urges staff working on Google’s Gemini AI projects to put in long hours to help the company lead the race in artificial general intelligence (AGI).”

Personally I think 30 hours is great. Half of that of Brin. What do you think is the “sweet spot”?

Like 30, ideally with flexibility for when you work them. I'm a morning person, I wake up super early, and I am dragging by, like, 1:00 or 2:00. My bestie, on the other hand, would never wake up before noon if she didn't have to. I'm going to do much better work at 7:00 a.m. than my friend ever will, and she's going to be better at 5:00 p.m. than I ever will be.

Also, just based on my personal observation, I don't think the average person is actually solidly productive for 8+ straight hours, 5+ days a week. There are diminishing returns.

I work longer hours 4 days a week and typically push papers on either monday or friday. On avg, 40 to 45. I'm down with that. No need for 60.

35 to 45 depending on the type of work and the current workload.

Anything over that will just lead to mistakes and burnout.
