1. The word for pineapple is not a variant of pineapple or ananas?
2. The word for tea is not a variant of tea of cha?
3. The word for coffee isn’t related to coffee/cafe?

Picked these because it seems that most languages tend to use these roots, and I’m curious about other variants of the words :lisalaugh:

I know Portuguese does use ananás for pineapple, but they also have a different word for pineapple that isn’t related: abacaxi. I’ve got nothing for the other two though.

Piña and pineapple comes from the same reasoning :sanapray: both came form the idea that it looked like a pine cone. Except English added apple while Spanish kept just the pine cone part, though both words have the same root for pinecones. Ananas can also be used in Spanish though, so Spanish does end up using both of the versions in a way :lisalaugh:

we have ananas and kawa which is quite similar to cafe at least in pronounciation, but tea in polish is... herbata
Fair enough. But now it’s time to pit you guys against the Brit’s and Americans: do you pronounce the H? :uwu:

Don't know if it counts since it's a conlang, but toki pona's equivalents for these are quite different due to how the language works.

Pineapple = kili kiki ('kili jelo pi luka pakala' I believe is technically more correct, but it's a mouthful)
Tea = telo kasi (also means 'char' or 'sap'), but telo pimeja (refers to any dark liquid, such as coffee or motor oil) can also be used
Coffee = telo namako (this can also mean 'sauce' or 'soup') but again, telo pimeja can be used also

I'm very much a beginner, so take these with a grain of salt

Tea is chai (more closer to cha in my household. We drop the "i.") Tea is tea in spanish but only my dad's side cares about tea so it's chai forever and always :).

Pineapple is piña. The Portugese word "ananás" is similar to what it's supposedly called in Gujju but I've never heard any Gujjus call it that.
It's usually just "pineapple" with an accent. Or some of my Indian fam would called it "pina" without the ñ

Coffee is coffee with an accent or cafelito/cafecito. :icgyu:

It counts but with an asterisk, since it’s a more unique form of language. But it counts for overall :lisalaugh:
