Short version: JYP making Jae apologise for very Twitch-like joke might have saved face in Korea, but meant that kpop is now mockered in Twitch community and west even harder than before.
Long ver:
I have been thinking this cause i think whole controversy is really clash of two very different cultures- korean kpop fandom and expectations of idols and western twitch culture. These two are almost polar opposites even if Twitch is trying to became more cleaner place (for example compared to youtube u can curse on ttch amd make sexual comments with no issue of getting demonetized).
Twitch hasnt been that into kpop, often thinking its cringy and fake. Jae was anomaly, streamers and their chats being constantly surprise kpop star was streaming and playing with them. But he made friends with from small streamers to the biggest- OTV, Ryan Higa, Sykkuno, Valkyrae, honestly at march he had pretty much played with everyone. Even with plp more critical about kpop like Moistcritical and Hasanabi. There were many that wanted to make collabs with him and also many who constantly promoted his merch and songs on their streams.
There was big opportunity right there to not only promote Day6 but pioneer kpop to new areas. Twitch is big international platform just like youtube is, but with very little kpop content.
However with Jae having to apologise for joke that was very Twitch-like I have seen lot of streamers and twitch chats shocked and weirded out. It has returned to mindset that kpop stans are crazy and kpop toxic and i cannot even fault that. I feel like groundwork he did on Twitch was destroyed by that apology. It likely saved face of him and Day6 in korea which is important when comeback is this close. But it was huge opportunity loss not only to Day6 but to kpop. He seems to have Twitches support, but kpop doesnt. By apologising to one u are bound to offend the another.
