How much of your fav's discography have you listened to? (1 Viewer)

I call myself a stan(based on my understanding of "stanning" since 2018) but other than BP; which is probably 10-15 songs out of total watever~30 songs(?), I probably listened to only between 10%-50%(maybe more for newer ggs like aespa/IVE~75/80%(?), i think of total of those in my sig cause they all hv large discographies n I don't hv time/braindwidth[like bandwidth but hopefully it's understood wat I mean]

For pre kpop faves like Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos, Rachael Yamagata, Vienna Teng n a few other, I think I listened to all songs on their albums(cassette tapes/cds) tat I bought till 2016 or so. I dint search for non album tracks or download only songs for above mentioned. I tried to find a Disney cover by Suzanne Vega I read about in newspaper(whole album/cassette of covers actually by different artists) but never found it n forgot but later rmbrd it, but I'll look again after posting this. I even bought/listened to full cassette - Bruce Willis(return of bruno), Eddie Murphy's & Don Johnson's solo releases(only 1 each actually, and fully enjoyed 'em at the time playing multiple times until I lost interest/heard em too much n stopped) same for a few others like (maybe) Juliana Hatfield, indigo girls, dinosaur jr, I can't rmbr if I bought Matthew sweets girlfriend cassette album. Nirvana's In Utero (3rd album) cassette was also in constant play for me after I bought it. I think REM's Monster on CD too. Thing is I tried to go bk to earlier Nirvana/REM but I dint vibe to the earlier even more indie type songs n tat probably has carried over into kpop where bsides ain't as re-listenable or sometimes even tts as per gidle/wjsn/oh my girl case maybe not omg tts just bsides except dolphin. Maybe it's just surfeit of abundance tat I'm just not used to.where I had only a few albums/cassettes/cds per year to listen to/buy/afford n I listened constantly to John Legend, Rachael yamagata, Vienna Teng n I'd go to hmv/virgin megastore to browse to see if there was a CD I could afford/wanted to buy n listen at the listening station to either snippets or whole songs. Now with youtube I don't hv the attention span to try millions of songs or sample just a few out of overloading my mind. So it depends but not 100%, barely any 90% maybe 80% of BP(I forgot abt Everglow-75-80/90%(?) but probably 25-50/65% for some others. If there was a list of total songs by WJSN, OMG, GIDLE, Red Velvet, SNSD, Gfriend I could guesstimate but in the end I listen to the songs I like n try others, but if it doesn't vibe with me I don't search/relisten again(unless it's fyp n I don't click to next item)

As long as my (emotional) attachment/investment in entire group/my bias in the group(extends to entire group) is over a certain threshold I call myself a stan.

I can't rlly define it more fully than tat I think(for personal n private reasons). Frex in 2018 I stanned(or called myself a stan of, based on my then understanding of the term n also the term bias] SNSD n bias Jessica. But moving forward I stanned BP, GF, EG(this is only time based on a single song rather than whole group/multiple videos for SNSD, or suddenly/over time for the rest of my stan groups I think) I hv casual/more than casual interest in ITZY, TWICE, NMIXX, KIOF n maybe others like SMN but I consider I hvnt crossed my (personal, subjective) threshold into standom-i might in future or for others but I'm pretty much overloaded just with 10 stan groups-9 or 8 if SNSD/BP/GF r considered as hiatus(similar to military hiatus ig or plain disbanded) VIVIZ replaces GF, n RV IS might be only 6=EG, GIDLE, WJSN, OMG, aespa & IVE or 5 minus WJSN/Cosmic Girls also on temporary hiatus unless SSE decides they still hv viable senior gg WHO ARE NOT actually in military enlistment unlike MX, n give them cb to entice the 8 members to resign before it's too late.

Tldr: my personal subjective attachment/investment dictates if I stan(I don't control or decide on purpose, if I think/or feel smh I stan them I stan. Same with my bias, i dint actually decide except for Jessica-I kinda said to myself after first reading the definition of bias in kpop terms, ig my bias is/I bias Jessica in SNSD-i was most attached to Sica bkscrolling to 2009 (in 2018) n I had read mention in 2014 of Sica departing from SNSD, n I had watched Gee then into the new world after reading abt 9 week record win in march(?) 2009 tho I slept on em mostly thereafter until 2018(intermittently catching up during Genie era momentarily, TTS debut n TSS leaving SMEnt in 2017without any attachment/emotional investment until after I started stanning in 2018, just recollecting my previous (unemotional/just casual interest) connection.

Tldr 2: hope tats informative(it's as uncomplicated as I can get close to smh clarifying) srry if it's still confusing.

In the 80s I only mostly liked Suzanne Vega, maybe REM more intensely-similar to stanning hut without parasocial aspects(since internet/sns/bbses practically dint exist bk then, I had no interest in regional then idols like Andy lau or the cantopop heavenly kings or Anita mui or other than Maggie Cheung).

The 90s I was fortunate to attend 2 Tori Amos concerts in London while staying/visiting my brother who studied/lived/worked there for ard 10 yrs or more. Later REM concert nearby after I returned home. Still no parasocial aspects yet I think. Only scattered newspaper reports in a loooong while. I had to find out a Suzanne Vega comeback/new album after a few yrs while browsing at a music cassette shop randomly in the mid/late 90s and had to wait to listen till I got home (imagine a hour(s) plus long bus ride n another bus ride home in my home city.

Even the 00s was when I joined internet forums but only for Vega/Amos which were active different time zone/geography so I dint contribute(maybe nil)/follow too long, I think eventually they went into a hibernation/comatose state or morphed into official sites only. I think the non parasocial users gravitated away but tats just a guess. Western artist specific forums might hv been dying/died on its own anyways. Nvr looked/found REM/Nirvana/Rachael yamagata/Vienna Teng specific forums.

2010-2018 I re-kindled a spark from 2009 onwards into a full flame for kpop n hvnt looked bk since(yet). If I had known/googled/looked for kpop forums/sites earlier or youtube mvs/clips bk in 2008 or between then 2017 I might been caught by the parasocial aspects of kpop then n spent money on SNSD concerts/merch/cds/photobooks/lightsticks/flown to korea maybe but the only time was in 2010s unknowable yr when I saw (but dint buy) SNSD compilation The Best cd in a hmv superstore in the city I was working in. I go by 'feels' when I decide to purchase a cd/music cassette or as in Vega/Amos best compilation multi cd set-financial considerations(so 20% discount at then borders store).

Since 2018 further deponent safety not.ie no comment. Just following my faves n vibing/posting/reading online[including discord kpop gg servers-separate since no aggregate exists afaik] (n on a WhatsApp snsd chat) end for now.

I hv listened to all(I think, or tat I can find out) of my ult Jessica except maybe her Chinese songs from Sisters Who make waves tv survival show, I tried to watch every episode too no matter who was in it but translation lateness killed my interest in last episode(being tat clips showed the winner sooner, or before I found the translation). I could understand a (Chinese, from taiwan)Cyndi Wang being crowned winner but sica being 2nd felt heartwrenching when she did so much more than conditioner Wang in leading her team, teamwork with opposing teams n drawing kpop/snsd audience to the show. I had no interest in season 4 even with amber liu on(I think, I hvnt searched for newer clips/episodes)

I also listened to all Rosie songs(same caveat, released n tat I know abt-not sure abt upcoming debut album. It's purely mood n timing ig.

It's no good to force yourself to listen/watch sthg if ur not attentive/open to liking it.

Even if it's my cup of [insert beverage here] but I'm not receptive at the time it might influence my later listening.

Frex I randomly listened/watched YooA 'Bon Voyage' MV (I may or may not hv been posting/following teasers for her solo debut). I wasn't a OMG stan at, so probably only heard Dolphin/nonstop/SSFWL casually bk then. But I fell in love immediately n listened to whole mini album n ....long story short she was my bias n by extension I stanned OMG mostly cause YooA was in the group(I do n did like all members n retroactively liked better Dolphin/nonstop n other songs in omg discography[but not as much as I did 'abracadabra' n other yooa songs on that first mini album. I didn't love her cb as much but timing/mood.

Same/similar re: IVE 'ELEVEN' first listen/watch n I noticed someone in the MV n I searched for who it waa after watching. (See my sig). Later songs after love dive, after like, I forget the titles from then --- this yr/last yr aren't as liked/listened to by me.

Aespa I love different songs, Armageddon & Supernova, better things, n a few other I like/(predisposed to listen to) more than others but too many to really list out.

A lot of times if it comes to mind(either an old song or upcoming song) I'll listen if I think I can commit 3-5 minutes if attention n focus. Otherwise I wait till it comes up in my mind again AND I hv attention/focus then. I don't plan oh let's put aside 5 minutes or 1/2 hrs to listen. I dint growing up until I heard a song on radio 'Luka' by Suzanne Vega n had to go n buy the cassette(I don't remember mechanics or timing, whether I knew immediately the singer n the album/cassette n how long it took me to go to shopping mall/music shop n save/not spend money I had. Plus there were 2 albums out then 1st debut album, n 2nd album with Luka on it.
