In the washing machine/dryer specifically?

I have a white pair of vans that I wash once every couple months when it gets very dirty. I have a habit of stepping on my own feet so it's usually my own fault it becomes dirty in the first place, not so much my workplace and general wear.
I currently have a new pair of tennis shoes in the wash because they squeak when I walk it's the most embarrassing thing and I was telling my manager about it today and she compared it to Spongebob's pair of squeaky boots and I became really self conscious. Anyway, now they're in the dryer even though I've only worn them three times. The shoes are banging around now and it hit the door of the dryer so hard that it OPENED the door.

I never used a machine, won't it deform? I usually buy dark colors so once every few months with a toothbrush.

If they're the wrong material you can damage them, but I've never had a problem

I usually just surface wash them, but not that often. I usually let it go until my mom suggests it. lol
