This belongs to a series of informative threads about SW. If you haven't seen the other parts here they are: Part 1, Part 2
Since the intention is to simplify things for those who are not very familiar with SW, I won't get too deep into the lore of the Sith or the Jedi but I'll leave some videos about the history of both organizations if you want to check more of it.
In my previous thread I stated that the force is divided in two sides: Light (good) and Dark (evil). This two parts are represented primarly by two organizations, the Jedi (Light side) and The Sith (The Dark side).
The Jedi Order is the older of the two and was formed by a group of followers of the light side of the force. They eventually became skilled in the force and influential (I'll talk about The politics in SW later on, don't panic) which led to a structured organization composed by:
- Grand Master. The oldest Jedi and highest ranked member.
- Master of the Order. Elected leader or the High Jedi counsil (The most important body of the Jedi Order. It's formed by 12 masters and all the important decisions regarding the Order are taken there.)
- Jedi Master. A high ranked Jedi, this is a title usually given to the most wise, talented and with certain leadership within the Order.
- Jedi Knight. A Middle rank Jedi.
- Padawan. A Jedi apprentice.
As for their skills, as I mentioned above, the Jedi were very powerful on the light side of the force. This allowed them to learn certain abilities like:
- Mind manipulation
- Use the force to enhance their physical abilities (speed and agility)
- Levitate objects.
- Deflect and/or repel attacks.
Of course not everybody has the same level of skill. Some are better using mind manipulation like Master Qui Gon jiin and other more skilled to levitate very heavy objects with the force.
But obviously the Jedi are most famous for their ability to fight with lightsabers. They developed different fighting styles as well as saber types but I'll talk about that in other thread.
On the other hand, The Sith were born as a rupture of the Jedi Order. Following someone who wanted to investigate the Dark side of the force, this path took them to the discovering of new and terrifying powers. The Sith have a somewhat similar organization as the Jedi but they move in the shadows. Their thirst for power leads to an always changing organization which sole purpose is to destroy the Jedi and rule the universe but there's something that never changes: The rule of two.
The high ranked Sith are given the title of Darth, which they used in order to demonstrate their power and knowledge in the dark side.
The skills of the Sith are similar to the Jedi but they purposely avoid using mind manipulation as this it's seen as something for Jedi (implying is a subtle and weak way of doing things) and prefer the raw force to defeat the enemy. In terms of their lightsaber skills, The sith are more aggressive and have an unorthodox approach both, in style and lightsaber types.
Good example of the things mentioned above is Darth Vader. Being extremely talented in the force, he was not only capable of perciving other force users at very long distances but also able to use the force to lift, deflect and enhance his own physical abilities. His signature move is the Force choke.
But the most terrfiying ability of the Sith is the Force Lightning.
I'd like to clarify that none of the abilities mentioned here are exclusive of the Sith or Jedi. As controversial as this may sound, the differences between both groups are mostly ideological and this affects their actions as well as their fighting styles. A jedi do not uses his/her ability for personal gain and avoids confrontation (rejecting the dark side) so they end up being more defensive, while the Sith use aggression as their primary way to obtain even more power.
Some duels:
Thank you for making it this far. I hope you all enjoyed it.
