OMG OMG ARE THEY OKAY???? I sure hope that they are!!!!!!!

That's honestly so scary like I can't imagine the stuff that the victim's family must be going through after that...my goodness...

And that is another big cause of these car accidents. Apart from people not paying attention, people being careless. Like there's a reason why it says in most American state driver's handbooks that you CANNOT go over the speed limit. I'm guilty of going a little bit over the speed limit but it's almost never more than 10 over. (this next part, I'm speaking for my state only. Some my be different, idk) Technically, you can get a ticket for going at least 5 over and it's a misdemeanor until 15 over (and then it's a felony). And 20 over is expensive but the mot trouble you'll get into is if you hit someone, and especially, especially if they were injured either short term or long term or even worse, and worse case ever, death. The legal stuff hitting a biker or pedestrian alone is bad enough especially if you were breaking two laws at once (running a stop sign/light, speeding, etc. and hitting someone). I can't imagine how bad it would be if you actually injure (or, worse case scenraio), kill them.

The only way from my house to get to school is on a 45mph speed limit "highway" and I'm literally going no more than 50 or 55 and there are people passing me and going so much faster me as if they were like "this person in front of me is way to slow!" and I'm like each time "how fast do you ahve to be going if I'm only going 5-10mph over speed and you're needing to pass me? Like, come on now!"

I really hope the driver gets a punishment and that will teach her not to go over the speed limit and look out for pedestrians and know they have the right of way
I think going a little over is fine but to go 40s in a school zone defiantly not!

Yeah, honestly, that's very true though I'm sure that it was an accident so I can't help but feel a little bit sorry for them too. Who knows? It could've been a one time mistake where for whatever reason they weren't paying attention. I think that if you're not in a good condition to drive, have someone else drive you if possible or park somewhere until you can recollect yourself.

Like I mentioned earlier, I remember I suddenly got so nervous driving alone even though I never had been alone and I did the smart thing and parked to take a few deep breaths, mostly because I know myself and that I'm 10x worse of a driver when I'm nervous. My state's manual says not to drive not only if you've been drinking or taking medicine that hurts your focus. But it also says not to drive when you're experiencing too heavy emotions because that can really distract you...whether it be anger, sadness, excitement, anxiety, etc. Now if the person was being careless, I can't really feel sorry for them but if they were dealing with something that was distracting them, then I can feel a little bit sorry for them.

Oh yeah. Going over too much is really bad but doing in a school zone is REALLY bad. You should also always watch for kids because even if there's like a school crossing and you don't see any kids, they have less judgment and decision-making skills than someone older and may not know the concept of running across the street and getting hit and hurt. That's what they teach you, at least.

That reminds me...there was this one kid who was jaywalking (illegally crossing without regard for approaching traffic) and he got hit. He's okay but it goes to show that the driver isn't alawys at complete fault if they hit a pedestrian or biker...if you're jaywalking and you get it, you can be partly liable. It sort of reminds me of if you were driving and hit a loose dog. You may be liable for not paying attention but the owner will also be liable for not having the dog on a leash or watched at all times.
