Hey Hey (one of our roosters) is 100% territorial and wants to make sure your not harming his beautiful hens. He has gotten us a few times (thankfully not horribly bad, just some pecks and bruises). I’ve come to the conclusion that he will always be territorial (his brother is a little bit but he’s never attacked us). But I’ve been trying to create a respectful relationship with him I guess you can say. I want him to know that I’m not going to hurt his flock or him and that I will not allow him to lunge after me or someone else. I come into their run always with treats so he knows that I have goodies always, I move slowly around him so he doesn’t feel the need to defend himself or the others and when he does lunge I let him know that I will not be the one that loses the “standoff” (by this I mean if he lunges I’ll take slow, large steps toward him and make myself look bigger until he turns his back to me or walks away). I got to put this to the test today. Their net in their run keeps collapsing because the weight of the snow and we have to keep fixing it often so no hawks or eagles get to them. My moms husband was the one fixing it this time and he is both scared and despises our chickens so I had to go out their with him to keep the chickens away from him. He’s even scared of our most sweetest chicken Millie, she would hurt nobody but anyways, Hey Hey does NOT like him. I distracted him for a few minutes with their grubs but Hey Hey didn’t like this strange dude in his territory and was constantly trying to go after him, but all I had to do was step in front of him and tell him “no” (a word he knows all to well ) and you guys, he was such a good boy! He just walked away each time, no lunging at me because I stepped in front of him, he’s made so much progress and I’m so proud of him. Idt he will ever be a cuddly rooster and I think I will constantly need to remind him that lunging or attacking in general is not okay, but that’s just the way some roosters are tbh. He’s a good boy who does his best to protect his flock.

I very much doubt he’d do that tbh. He really doesn’t like them at all. He’s not too big on animals
