Song Mingi
At the end of 2020 Mingi decided to go on hiatus due to his mental health, specifically due to his anxiety. It was a very surprising thing for many Ateez fans because from the beginning Mingi always portrayed himself as an extremely confident, energetic person who seemed to have very little struggles mentally. Mingi continued to record for songs for their comebacks but didn’t participate in any other activities.
It was extremely weird without lovely Mingi in the group and he was incredibly missed by both fans and the members.
He slowly began participating in small activities such as photoshoots and small trips with the members. The company did very well with working with him, his therapist and his parents to determine if he was mentally ready to make his full return.
He returned to full group activities in summer of 2021 and…
It was evident that Mingi went through a very big change through his 8 month hiatus. As he says he grew up a lot during the time. He seems even more confident than before, you can tell he no longer wanted to put on a front to the public and I applaud him for that.
He no longer wanted to play a role, he wanted to be 100% himself, and sort of seeing him coming into his own is honestly such an amazing thing. He didn’t have to come back to Ateez, would it have been sad? Yes, very much. But his health is always more important. Mingi is such a strong person and seems to be doing very well currently. I’ve also noticed that when it does seem like he is feeling anxious in situations (such as when he gets asked to “act like this” in varieties) his members give him lots of encouragement and reassurance. Lots of Atiny’s are also very supportive of him as well.
I’m gonna sound like a mom but he has grown into such a wonderful person who has been trying to help others after his own challenges. I am just so proud of him.
Mingi deserves all the love.
