In my job I need to work with Windows 11. Windows 10 is still on my private PC. Secure your system and browser and you should be fine for the next 12 months even without official Microsoft support. I used Windows 7 until 2024 without security problems!

Long-term there's no way around a newer Windows version if you don't want to use Linux or a Mac.

Something many YouTubers won't tell you: There are security updates for Windows Defender until at least 2028! IMO Windows Defender is better than many or even most virus scanners.

You can use Windows 10 'forever'. If you only play on consoles or don't need new games. If you start using Linux for internet browsing at some point in the future and stay offline with Windows 10. If you don't need updates for your favorite software. If you continue buying hardware with Windows 10 driver support.

I know people that use Linux for their internet activities and Windows XP offline, even for gaming. They just stay with their older games or buy them from GOG where you can get them legally without copy protection.

You can dual boot Windows 10 and Linux without problems. Or you can use a fast USB stick/external hard drive for Linux.

Generally I wouldn't recommend using pirated software. Not for legal reasons. Of course, you know that you can get in trouble. I downloaded especially pirated games in the past too - but even if the release groups check their files, uploaders can manipulate data and Warez are known for triggering virus scanner alarms ('false positives') anyway. That's the reason why even some popular and 'clean' Warez groups recommend deactivating virus scanners before installing cracked software. And here we have a major security problem.

I don't really use my laptop that much
I do use consoles however
this would be dads department
I know nothing about linux and such

out of these only spotify, but if it was taken away from me i think i'd manage to live without it as most of my fave songs are on youtube anyway and i own many CDs of my fave artists. as for movie/series streaming services, i don't pay for them - i prefer to watch movies in theaters and most tv shows i watch are from polish cable tv channels
