Why is the world so power greedy?
Why is greed more powerful than truth and kindness?
Why are people so mean?

Questions I've pondered and never could figure out the answer to...

You know how people are addicted to something like drugs? And that gets to the point where they find any means of getting to those drugs like stealing from others, tricking others into bad things, and even get to serious offenses? Like they are so desperate for it, they will do anything even if their body or mind cannot handle it too well, cause they just need the drug?

Now imagine that with money, the satisfaction of putting others down, and greed, cause it's literally the same. You get one taste too many and then throw everything right and ethical out of the window. And feel bad about it? Well that's fine to them, cause they will get what they desire so bad and that will fill the gap.

But drugs and such jut narrows down to greed.

People put out a nicotine cigarette and people buy it. They get addicted and buy more. They realize its bad and stop, causing the people selling it to lose money. The people release a 'nicotine free' item. People still get addicted. They say that for people's l=health but there is still nicotine in there.. People just don't realize it..

But it all narrows down to why?

Why?

Why?
Why? It feels nice to have money. That's why. If society didn't make people with money powerful, they wouldn't have to do this.

Still though, consider that the majority of people who smoke do so cause they want to and don't wanna quit despite the health risks.

But why does it feel nice to have money? It would be so much easier to just trade. Example:
I cut down trees for a living.
You bake bread.
I give you work for your home and fires.
You give me bread to eat.

Simple.

Bartering doesn't really solve the problem with money. Money is really just resources a person controls that other people value. And the more resource they control, the more powerful they are. Before currency, there were still kings and warlord who controlled stuff like this.

Yeah, and when you go to the market to buy groceries, you wanna lug around a pile of wood everywhere? What if you need to buy shoes, but the shoemaker doesn’t want your wood and wants carrots instead? You’d then have to go to the farmer for carrots, dragging your wood along with you, hoping that HE wants wood. And if the carrot farmer wants a chicken instead, then, well, you get the point.

I saw an interesting video on evolutionary biology that can offer a bit of insight.

In computer simulations of simple beings, in which some are greedy and aggressive and some are peaceful and generous. The simulation found that a society of only aggressive beings cannot flourish because they fight and hurt each other too often to reproduce effectively. A society of peaceful beings was the most prosperous as they shared resources equally and supported the large population. However, when in a peaceful society, an aggressive being has a greater chance to reproduce than a peaceful being because other beings will share with it and it keeps all it's resources and won't share. And this greater chance of reproduction means an increased chance of passing on it's genes and so it and it's offspring will spread their genes more effectively than peaceful beings. The aggressive population will continue to grow until they start fighting and hurting each too much, at which point the peaceful being population will grow and reach an equilibrium of a mixed population.

What this showed is that a population of generous beings is the most ideal, but since it's more advantageous for the individual to be aggressive rather than peaceful in that population, the aggressive population will always be there to dominate the peaceful population, Unfortunately natural selection doesn't operate on what's best for the species, it operates on what's best for the individual in order to achieve reproduction, even if the offspring will harm the species. Obviously, this is very simplified and can only be loosely applied to people, but it can offer an evolutionary explanation for greed.

I think people tend to get greedy cause society has been full of greed itself. people who have something always get more while the ones who have less get even less stuff and opportunities over the years. things gotta be broken down for things to change
