I really don't understand all the hype about BTS and Blackpink. Sure, they are great and very pretty but I find other groups and bands just as talented and some even more. Could someone please help me understand why so many people like them?

It's the instant accessability. They are the most well known, so if someone is even sloghtly interested in kpop, they probs gonna hear about them first.

Like for 2nd gen it was big bang, 2ne1, snsd, miss a, 2pm , shinee

3rd gen bts, blackpink, exo, red velvet, twice

Etc.

Ah, ok. When I got into K-pop I actually heard about TWICE first but later on I discovered Blackpink and I never understood how they were so popular when other groups are just as talented (no offense)

For BP:

• I would say their sound is just working globally and considered rather cool by most (not only the sound, but also their style, clothes, everything they do pretty much)
• the group is easy to get into, they are only 4 members, 3 of them speak english (2 perfect, 1 very good), so unlike most other kpop groups, international fans can hear directly from the idols, instead of reading translations, if they chose to speak english
• they are very beautiful, regardless of beauty standards of different countries

So to me at least every aspect of them works on global scale

I do agree that their style is good, they are easy to get into, and they are very beautiful. I understand a little bit better now but I still feel like other groups should be acknowledged more.

Interesting. I'm not a fan of Blackpink but Lisa's dancing skills are amazing.

If I were to stan them though, I would pick Lisa to be my bias because her talent is amazing and I admire how good she is at dancing and rapping even though I don't really like their songs.

There are plenty of popular groups that I don't like. I like who I like and that's all there is to it. Music is very personal and tastes vary between individuals. Never question why you don't like a popular group and never force yourself to like a popular group if you're not feeling it. It's OK to have a different opinion. In fact, I respect people more that voice an opinion that may not be a popular one.

Back to the question at hand, I absolutely adore Blackpink. When I first heard about them, I was a bit apprehensive as the hype surrounding them was HUGE. I very quickly realized that they earned that hype and lived up to it and even exceeded it.

BTS I'm not into, but in general, I'm not into boy bands in the slightest.

Understandable, I only like a few boy bands because I find them much harder to like compared to girl groups.
