I don't understand apologies (2 Viewers)

I have had to apologize a lot of times and most of the time I'll follow up my statement with "I know that what I did hurt you/was wrong" most likely followed up by more context of why but when I say this the other person gets upset and says "If you know that what you did was wrong why would you even do it?" But this doesnt make sense...
Is it not mutually understood that when I say the earlier statement that I mean I see my wrongdoing in hindsight **after** it garnered the reaction it did? Why do you think that I would intentionally do something wrong with intent to hurt or offend you and admit it to your face? Also when I say "I know/understand how you feel" I say that out of sincerity when I can directly parallel something I've experienced to what they've told me they have experienced. But it's usually interpreted some type of wrong way because again the get upset and say "No you don't understand because if you did you wouldn't have acted how you did" but again, why do they not understand that im only recognizing my wrongdoing in hindsight and genuinely didn't understand how it would be negatively perceived before

it really comes back to what the apology was about
and if they deserve it or not

I don’t understand forced apologies. Why should I apologize for something that I have no remorse for? And it’s just awkward and unnecessary for both parties. I only see the value in apologies when I have actually done harm and are owning up to my mistakes.
