For example, right now a lot of people are minimizing the heat wave in the UK, saying “oh it’s 45C here (or whatever), you guys have nothing!” From what I know there’s no air conditioning in a lot of buildings in the UK (correct me if I’m wrong please), and it would be a lot different dealing with that. Or another example, when I was in the UAE it rained, and obviously I’ve had much stronger storms growing up in a place that gets tropical storms, but the UAE rain was nothing like it. There’s no systems in place for runoff and stuff like that so it was flooded. They closed the school down for the day too, not because they’re babies but because they weren’t equipped to deal with it. Some people really need to be explained to them like theyre 5 istg

yeah i mean in asia, we guys have fans and acs, but there in europe you guys have heaters because of the obvious extreme winters. so kinda worried how everyone will deal with it :/ not to mention most of these homes having carpeted floors while in asia, its tiles, so that the heat reflects off

As a Brit currently under a red extreme warning, a lot of our houses were built before aircon had even been invented, and it costs over 10k to buy and install. The UK has NEVER seen 40C before, and for people like me who have never left the UK before, this is new territory.

Today I’ve stayed indoors, had a standing fan on all day, drank lots of water, and still been ill enough to not even keep that down.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with that. It’s hard, even if I don’t have experience dealing with such heat and no air conditioning I know that it can be dangerous. I hope you feel better soon

Thank you! I’m still drinking sips of water so my body still has something, but I don’t have a temperature or anything (just a migraine and some mild stomach cramps)
Tomorrow is going to be even hotter, but on Wednesday it’s going down from 40C to 23C and rain is forecast, which we’ll all be thankful for.

keep the windows open, especially in the evening so the cool wind blows in and keep drinking water. also, keep the blinds off if its too sunny, that'll help cool off your house maybe

Yeah the windows and curtains have been shut so the fan is what I’ve mostly felt. For me it’s currently 27C at nearly 10pm and I’m just in bed with my smaller window wide open.

The ironic thing is that numerous houses (including mine) currently have scaffolding up because our local council are fitting outdoor insulation, but haven’t started because it’s too hot for them to work

And other than people not being prepared for it, the land itself isn't prepared either.

My area gets all seasons and can handle snow and blizzards. But our Octobers are usually still in summer temperatures. It snowed one October while the trees still had leaves and there were overturned trees everywhere. On cars, on telephones wires, some homes.
There were a lot of dead birds right after.

Yeah we don't really have AC in the UK. Never really been needed before so most homes don't have them.

People love to compare even if the scenarios are different like take Australia for example and their houses usually don't have 2nd floors to help deal better with the heat then you have Japan which is currently dealing with blackouts due to the high increase in energy demand because of the heat.

Places are just equipped to deal with different kinds of weather or disasters and people should recognise that before making such comparisons.
