Woke up a little late but was ready to do very little this morning because today is the day I usually just sort of relax the majority of the day. My favorite day of the week ngl.

Opened up my bedroom blinds and low and behold our dogs are running around loose in our neighborhood (my mom let them out in our gated backyard a few minutes earlier). The wind blew open our gate during the night. So we had to go get them back inside our house.
Next, I had to go do a few chicken chores. As I was gathering up their water containers to be cleaned I noticed Millie (hen) was being extra vocal with me and kind of seemed like she needed something but I didn’t think much of it because she’s generally like that when I come to say say hi to them. I just thought she was wanting me to get her grubs.
All of a sudden as I’m cleaning their containers a giant fight breaks out between her, Velvet and Cotton (2 other hens). I think a lot of people only think rooster’s can do a lot of damage, but hens can be extremely aggressive to each other (I want to preface that our hens get along with each other, this was just a very random case). Anyways I ran over and broke the fight up, and I realized that they were fighting over mice that are currently under their coop. There’s a small opening between two bricks that Millie was protecting (waiting for a mouse to dart out I presume). Which explains her behavior earlier because she knows that all I have to do is move a brick or two so she can get the mice (I ain’t doing that though lol, If they manage to catch mice thats fine but I ain’t putting my hand anywhere near a mouse unless I can possibly save it from the chickens). I’m on the mice’s side this time sorry Millie.

I spent my morning corralling dogs and breaking up silly chicken fights.
