I hate being wished a "Happy Mother's Day" (1 Viewer)

Just because I'm a woman does not mean I am a mother or have any plans of being a mother. Or that my mother is still alive or that I have a good relationship with her if she is. And that's not even getting into thoughtlessly wishing it toward women who may have recently lost a child.

I feel like, unless you happen to know, maybe this isn't the sort of holiday you need to go around wishing "happy mother's day" toward every woman you see.

(Do men have this problem with father's day, or nah?)

ngl it is kind confronting for me as I'm at the age where most of my peers are starting to have kids.
It's one of those holidays that reminds me that I'm "behind" on my peers.
For me, it really emphasizes how alone I am.
I'm not saying that it shouldn't be celebrated but even seeing stuff like this on social media just really makes me sad tbh

Hugs friend. It feels like it's the one day of the year when it's socially acceptable for everyone to come out of the woodwork and tell you what a disappointment you are for not being married with children, and I find it absolutely grating. It's even more annoying because I can't even complain about it, since it's meant well, but it's everywhere. Like damn, I'm just trying to attend gym class, why are you wishing me happy mother's day.

That's just weird and annoying

I always feel insane amounts of guilt on mother's day bc I feel like my mom will be upset if I don't do something. I gave her one of my clowns b4 and now it's ruined and not even in her room anymore. I'm still angry abt giving it to her

It's very strange. This weekend, I've been pinged in every discord I'm in to wish me a happy mother's day, been told it at the gym by every single teacher, had the grocery store clerk say it, had a random person at my friend's going away party last night approach me.... It feels like the underlying message is "if you aren't a mother, you obviously should be."

I feel you. I also don't have a great relationship with my mom and she piles on a lot of guilt tripping but then nothing is ever appreciated either. It's definitely valid to feel angry when you tried and she disregarded your efforts.

This happened to me just today and some stranger said Happy Mother’s Day when I was trying to get my iced coffee before heading to the bus stop.

I didn’t say anything because I know I am not a mother or if I know if I want to have kids some day (despite being single)

I do agree that it’s weird to wish a woman happy Mother’s Day if you don’t know them, their family status, their thoughts about having kids, ect. Ive luckily never had that said to me. I guess there are benefits to looking 14 apparently, like that flight attendant thought about me

I can’t even believe that’s a thing people do. Like you said, it’s not a holiday to wish everyone because it might be difficult or triggering to them. You really have to know the personally if it’s okay

I have a mother, a mother in law and my wife (who is a mother) and that's plenty of people to celebrate within my own family without needing to wish hppy mother's day to random women
