That’s it, that’s the thread :sakUwu:

Before people get worried I almost certainly don’t have it, and even if I do I’ll be fine because I have antibiotics. It’s just annoying how prevalent it is here and the fact that once you've had it once, there’s no surefire way to test if you have it in the future. So incredibly inconsiderate of the ticks and bacteria to be like that :wimwim:

I dunno about you OP but I hate diseases in general
is there any disease that's "good" or not hated? lol
Diseases in general are hated but there’s also the factor of how much it influences one’s life. Like while ticks here can theoretically carry alpha gal which would massively change my life if I caught it, I never really worry about it just walking around in nature because it’s so uncommon, while everyone and their mother here has had had Lyme or knows someone who did. And Lyme specifically worries me more because of the fact that there’s no longer a test I can use to detect if I have it, meaning I can only go off symptoms, and that’s not necessarily great because the first time I got Lyme it took 2 years to find out precisely because my symptoms weren’t very standard for Lyme.

So yeah, all diseases might suck, but Lyme just specifically gives me more grief because of my history with it, the prevalence, and so on. So when I go out in nature I have to be more vigilant, and if I ever see a tick or have something that might be a symptom of Lyme I have to worry about whether or not I could have gotten it :coronawimwim:

so it's personal to you - understandable
I guess if one had another disease that they too would hate that disease even more

Avoid ticks!

- There's no need to act like Bear Grylls! Stay out of grass that is more than ankle-high, don't walk through bushes. It may be boring for some outdoor enthusiasts to walk (literally) on save paths but it's healthier for sure (and you don't annoy the wildlife). Generally ticks don't fall from trees (it may happen when they 'travelled' with birds but it's not the rule). I see so many hikers walking or even camping in high grass. Guys, dont do that!
:ChaeNo:

- Ticks (and other insects like mosquitoes) don't like specific essential oils. In summer, when I wear just sandals and cargo short pants during hikes, I always carry a small sprayer with lemongrass oil in my bag. I spray my feet, legs, and hair. I can confirm that it works like a charm against mosquitoes. I'm not sure about ticks because I avoid higher grass anyway. I never found a tick on my body since I use lemongrass oil.

- Never feel completely safe. When you were in the outdoors, search for ticks on your body, especially at places like the hollow of your knee, in your armpits, in the groin area, in body folds.

- If you have a dog or cat, search for ticks on their body too. Also search the floor in your home. When ticks had enough blood, they look like little grey balls and they fall off. Don't kill them with your fingers (they can still bite and the blood in their body can be infectious). You could grab full ticks with a small piece of toilet paper and flush them down the toilet. Bye bye!

- Buy a tick tweezer. You can use it on your animals and on yourself safely. Never just scrape a tick off or crush it, it tends to inject even more bacteria in your body when it panics. Also don't use stuff like Vaseline to suffocate ticks.

I know all those tips and I luckily I’m not generally crazy about going outside so I don’t get ticks that much. But there are still cases where they find a way. I do take precautions, use bug and anti tick sprays, check my pets carefully (especially my dog since her fur is black), and make sure to dispose of them properly and such that they aren’t crushed when removing them. But it still makes me wary whenever I go outside and all, high grass or not, and I’ve found a lot of ticks on me even in cases where it seemed like I avoided all the major risk factors. It is also inconvenient that the ticks here that are the major carriers of Lyme are the ones that are really small and therefore harder to spot :haylul: unlike the dog ticks, which are larger and easier to spot but rarely carry Lyme.

There was news in finland that this year is tickfull. I keep feeling like somewhere in my body there might be a tick lurking after i visit my parents and cuddle with my dog. He has really fluffy fur so he is like an tick distributor bus. Even our house cat has gotten 4ticks already this year because of it :powerfulrat:
