In June of this year I demoted myself from an assistant manager position at a retail store to a part-timer (and subsequently I cannot be in the same department until a certain time period after). The department I'm in runs off of blood sweat and tears of a max of 4 employees (department manager, assistant department manager, 1 full timer, 1 part timer who works every other Saturday), so they hired a new assistant and got him trained and what not, but he has terrible attendance and doesn't like to come to work. Out of his 18 first days, my former department manager told me he had made it to 11 shifts.

Anyway, my replacement lasted max 4 weeks and he quit today (he was supposed to close the department today and this weekend). Luckily, this being my former weekend, the full-timer works opening shift and the assistant manager would working closing shift. Well, today instead of being 10-6 in department "B" I got to be 10-3 in department "B" and 3-7:30 in my former department (we'll call it department "A").

Here's the thing - when I demoted, I joined two different departments. Officially, I belong to department "C" where I work on the weekends, and on two other days a week I work in department "D". Department "D" is my favorite, and departments "C" and "D" have the same pay scale. Departments "A" and "B" are less $ per hour than "C" and "D".

My store manager changed my schedule this weekend and made the following changes:
FORMER Saturday 6 HOUR SHIFT Department "C" ===> NOW 10 HOUR SHIFT Department "A"
FORMER Sunday 6 HOUR SHIFT Department "C" ===> NOW 8 HOUR SHIFT Department "A"

If this ended there, I wouldn't care very much. But it doesn't.

On Monday, the 1 full-timer is going on vacation for the entire week (he won't come back until next Monday). That's fine because. it sucks. but department "A" can survive running off of the same two employees for a week. You just have to push through it. But now there's no assistant manager, which leaves the department manager alone by himself.

Oh yeah, and the department manager's last day is the 21st. And don't ask about the part-timer, his last day is next weekend Saturday.

So yeah. I hate my job.

Damn that's a hot mess over there. Honestly I wouldn't even agreed with those changes, cuz you have to work more for less money. That's a hard no go here. Idk where you're from, but I think the work environment here is a lot better if I see your story. Can't you try to find a different job?

My eggs are all in one basket, I've been with this company for 4.5 years at 3 different locations. It is comforting because it's all I've known for so long... and all I can qualify for is retail jobs.

My store manager told me I can clock in in department "C" but work in "A" but it's so fucking annoying to walk from one side of the store to the other to clock out for my breaks and back.

The other fun thing is that department's "A" and "B" have strict, specific dress codes (department "A" has the highest/strictest dress code alongside HR, the store managers -->these 3 are the same level) while "C" and "D" are chill (tshirt, hoodie, jeans, tennis shoes) and my store manager said I can where whatever I want this weekend. Looks like I'm bending the dress code so I can wear my hoodie if I have to deal with this bullshit

Ohh noo. It would be much easier if the same dress code goes for every department. Why is everything so complicated
