I’ve posted so many threads about my chickens you can just call me the “Answer, Yunho, Suga and chicken enthusiast”!
Anyways we have our young chickens and older chickens which we call our “older girls”. There’s three of them and ever since we put the younger chickens in the separated half of the chicken run (when they were about 7 weeks) one of our older ladies was not happy whatsoever. Her name is Little Red (she’s a rhode island red so we’re very original lol). She became VERY territorial and would charge and try to attack us and so we would always bring in a large storage lid to shoo her away. There are ways to try and stop chicken aggression but
1. Little Red has always had a temper
2. I think she would just attack me if I tried to scoop her up like a football (which is a suggestion to calm an aggressive hen).
3. She’s tiny, but my goodness she’s a terrifying hen when she’s angry.
Anyways I was getting really tired with having to shield myself from her and just wanted to walk around freely and hang out with the other chickens like I usually would, especially since our younger chickens are now with the main flock. I miss my feathery babies. So yesterday and today I’ve been chancing it and just going into the chicken run with no protection (at first with treats to make sure I can distract her if she went after me which she did multiple times). And tonight I went in with absolutely nothing, no shield, no treats, nothing (I was terrified ngl lol I’ve been attacked by a rooster before and they can do a lot of damage in just seconds so I wasn’t wanting to repeat that). As I went in she did fine at first, her and the other chickens came up to me for pets and to see if I had any food/treats. Then she went to go after me, and right as she did, Pollo (our top hen) blocked her with her body. I thought at first it was just a coincidence but as I went about petting them all and checking their food, Pollo would give Little Red warning pecks any time she went to lunge at me! By the end she chased her away and came to chill out beside me like “Your safe now”.
I never grew very close to the majority of our chickens until I raised our youngest chicks all on my own so tbh I never spent much time with our older three hens. But ever since our youngest feathery babies I’ve definitely grown to love all of our chickens (even Little Red) and in general have just fallen in love with chickens.
