I'm very annoyed. Sooooooooooooo if you've followed along, you'll know I found out my pup has an IMHA (autoimmune form of anemia). He was being treated to stabilize his blood because they found him to have pancytopenia (when red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets are all low) upon discovery. A specialist put him on a steroid to help bring up his WBC, RBC, and platelets. It's an intense drug and we all know it would have negative side effects.

Those negative side effects took a big dip and we found out he has DKA now from a month of steroids. Financially, this is exhausting. Emotionally, I'm not here.

The part that annoys me is the steroid put him on a worse trajectory which he is now in treatment for. I don't have my pup rn. He's been in the hospital since yesterday morning.
Good news tho, his sugar came down with treatment, he's barking, he's eating, he's peppy. Their word.

And from my understanding of what I'm being told he's basically diabetic for life on top of his IMHA. I have a friend in medicine breaking down the medical terms for me.
The financial part that annoys me. In America, if you sign up your pet for insurance too late, insurance will not cover pre-existing conditions and unfortunately we signed up late so this is all considered pre-existing.

My baby is 4 years old. What he has I've mainly heard elderly pets going through. My point of reference are people who's pets were 14/15/16 years old.
My baby is just 4. He's a baby. His Vet has told me young pets don't need insurance, a wellness plan is good enough (wellness covering stuff like routine care and vaccines).
So I never got insurance for him while he was young. And while I was researching for insurance that covers pre-existing conditions I found none and reason being, they don't think it's a good investment. WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN????? This is a life not a coffee machine.

How is it that we live in a world that doesn't value life. It barely values human life and on the totem pole it only value healthy pets lives.
I've heard the stories of people abandoning their pets because they have a disease or are elderly now and are risk at developing a diseases and other medical issues. I don't even want to get into that because if you are willing to abandon a life, not even re-home them for a better future, just straight up abandon, you don't deserve happiness.

I live in poverty and I'm poor as hell and come from a household of me and my mom who is disabled. One of my doggos is 12 which means she's now a elder. Since she's a elder Chihuahua she has this skin condition that apparently elder Chi's get. Not easy to treat as the main treatment is allergy pills and special shampoo. She HATES baths. Not to mention she has so much fur missing and sores from chewing and scratching on herself. My other doggo is around 4-5 years old. He is the one with epilepsy and obvs he deserves to be able to get his meds, which he does but it's not cheap. I consider them my brother and sister. They ARE family.

It's already hard enough for the average person to get their medical expenses covered over the age of 18.

This is exactly what I'm going through. Amidst trying to get disability and Medicaid I'm forced to seek free insurance options while I have no insurance. A lot of the doctors I need to see aren't on the roster of the medical assistance I use. My health isn't improving and I'm struggling to get financial help for Ozempic which would change my quality of life dramatically. My QOL isn't very good now. Not to mention, it's embarrassing but, coming from a house with me and my mom we can't clean the house as thorough as needed to get rid of dust and dog dander. Meaning dust & dog dander (which I am allergic to) is all throughout the house is going straight into my lungs. Me and my mom never realized how bad the air we breathe in our house is until we came back from the beach this past Saturday. Fresh ocean air and a very clean hotel room really opened our eyes. Our typical health issues were nowhere near as bad compared to the usual at home. We decided we are gonna try to find an air purifier and my mom is going to get assistance from a family member to clean our house. This is all we can do.

Unfortunately, since we can't actually communicate with them unless they are trained to use buttons like some these days that's how things are going to be. Hopefully since you know your lil fella has these issues someone somewhere may be able to help. There are TONS of organizations out there for instances like this. I REALLY hope he's able to get treatment and live a happy full life.
