I saw a lemon thread here and remembered I wanted to look up the citrus family tree. And looking at it I found something interesting. Based on the names, I always assumed that common limes are the original, and key limes are probably a hybrid of common limes with something else. But its actually the opposite. Key limes predate common limes. Common limes are a cross between key limes and lemons. I also learned that key limes are not commercially grown in the US, and haven’t been since the 1920s, despite being associated with Florida. Interesting stuff

You can make almost all citrus fruits starting from 3 fruits, the rest are hybrids of those three
