I meant to have this out 2 weeks ago but I kept procrastinating on listening to their latest EP because I’m extremely lazy. But finally here we are! For anyone unaware this is something that I’m wanting to do as a regular thing here: listening to groups, solo artists and bands discography and sharing my thoughts with you lovely folks.
What I do is I listen to their music in order of release (leaving out Japanese releases, collabs, solo projects, etc…) rate them as I listen and with some albums I go in more depth of my thoughts and feelings. After the ratings of their songs/albums I’ll talk about some of my dislikes, likes and overall thoughts at the end. Just please remember this is just my opinion, you don’t have to agree with anything that I say and in no way am I trying to send hate to Red Velvet. (Extra disclaimer: I am a boy group stan… So… Just remember that as well lol)

I already knew this song prior to listening to their discography but I first listened to it almost 2 years ago and back then my music taste was a little different so I just thought the song was ‘okay’ and never really listened to it again. But I really, really enjoyed it when listening to it again I thought it was extremely catchy and it just kept getting better and better as the song progressed and all of the members stood out to me.
Huff n Puff (8/10)
I know I’m just now starting with this album but I noticed when listening to their first EP that their songs are really distinguishable which I feel like is something some groups struggle with. This one has its own signature sound and is another distinctive song from them. At first I wasn’t sure if I would like this song based off the first few seconds but it pulled me in pretty quickly. The instrumental at times reminded me of old video games which I feel like a lot of groups experiment with and for me personally with those songs it’s either a big hit or miss. Yet another one to add to my playlist!
Campfire (7/10)
Yeri has really surprised me so far. I guess it’s because I’ve seen people say she’s not as strong as her other members, even if she does pick things up slower then her other members I don’t think she’s bad. I really liked her parts in this song a lot and in ‘Dumb Dumb’ as well. The chorus is definitely my favorite thing in this song their voices sound so strong there.
Red Dress (8/10)
I probably would have given this a 10/10 if the chorus was different, I still liked it but it was sort of underwhelming compared to the verses (the verses were amazing!). I really don’t have much else to say besides that another great song. I’m seriously so surprised right now with how much I’m enjoying their music.
Oh Boy (7/10)
I can’t decide who’s voice I like most, Wendy has such a powerful voice and continues to wow me in almost every song but then there’s Seulgi and Joy who keep making me feel things. I liked how this song transitioned out of the chorus and into the next verses with these type of songs I feel like most groups would slow the song down before moving into the next verse and sometimes that works but other times you have to sort of get yourself back into the song.
Lady’s Room (4/10)
I liked the type of vibe they were going for with this song but for me compared to the rest in this album it’s not as memorable and I found myself not that interested in the song.
Time Slip (4/10)
This song is so confusing. I thought it was going to go one place one second and then another place, but instead it completely turned around and went to something that I didn’t expect... because of this it was hard to really get into the song. It sort of felt like they mashed up two different songs to me. It wasn’t horrible and I did like some parts of the song but it’s definitely not my favorite from them.
Don’t U Wait No More (7/10)
Irene stole my heart in this song I even went back a few times to just listen to her verses. I feel like some people may not like this song because the constant repeating of the title but that was actually one of my favorite parts of the song (Actually Irene was my favorite part of this song lol).
Day 1 (4/10)
Idk why but I feel like this song is perfect for tap dancing… It also sort of reminds me of something you’d hear at an old carnival… Anyhow this really isn’t my type of song unfortunately Idk how to explain it but it’s just not something I would listen to again.
Cool World (10/10)
This is Joy’s song, she shined so much and her voice was so lovely, beautiful, angelic, etc… (I promise I’m a BG stan…) I think this is my favorite b-side from them so far. It’s something you want to be playing in the background as your enjoying your time with friends.

I think this was the first Red Velvet song I heard and to this day it’s one of my favorite girl group songs. I love the instrumental throughout the song and I like how even though this is their ‘Velvet’ side I like how it’s still upbeat and not as slow as some of their other songs like ‘Be Natural’ and ‘Automatic’. I think this is also one of my favorites when it comes to Yeri’s parts the song fits her really well.
Look (7/10)
I almost gave this an 8/10 but didn’t because I think it’s a song that I need to be in a certain mood to listen to that being said I did enjoy it. All the members voices sounded so pretty and clear (is that the word I’m looking for?).. Their voices just sounded really soothing in this song.
I Just (8/10)
Wendy has my heart and soul in this song. I actually had to listen to this song a few times to decide how I felt about it, I didn’t dislike it but the song felt like a journey to me I was just unsure with how much I did like it. It’s different but I do really enjoy it and I’m really enjoying how experimental Red Velvet is with their music... Also am I the only one that wishes this had an MV?
Kingdom Come (8/10)
I’ve heard a lot about this song so my expectations were sort of high. I don’t think I like it as much as other people do but I do understand the appeal and why this gets so much praise. I think I enjoyed the song more as it progressed and that’s what really won me over in the end.
My Second Date (4/10)
I really didn’t know what to think of this song I liked it a lot at first and then the pre-chorus happened, then the chorus I didn’t like much either but then I liked the following verse… *sigh* there were parts that I really enjoyed but unfortunately because of other moments in the song it didn’t turn out well in my opinion.
Attaboy (2/10)
I liked the pre-chorus but that was it… One thing I’ve never liked too much in GG songs is when they force the high pitched/cute voices, I’m not saying I dislike it all the time because I do think it can sound really good at times but this song when Joy was singing it just sounded really annoying. I don’t mean that as anything bad towards Joy because I really do like her voice but.. Idk I just feel like she has such a pretty voice so I don’t see why they chose for her to have a squeakier/cuter tone in this song.
Perfect 10 (5/10)
This was one of those songs that I liked but it’s not my type of song if that makes sense? I thought they all sound good but that’s it really. The song didn’t really go anywhere for me while I was listening to it and kind of just seemed at a standstill.
About Love (4/10)
I’m beginning to realize that I may prefer their Red side over their Velvet side which is something I wasn’t expecting. This song was fine but I was sort of bored when listening to it at the end because like the last song I felt like it didn’t really go anywhere and it was hard for me to stay focused.
Moonlight Melody (5/10)
I used to be a huge ballad fan, I still enjoy them but because I used to listen to them all the time it’s made me realize how much ballads sound alike and unfortunately this was one of them. It didn’t really sound unique or distinguish itself from others which is something that I was hoping to hear more from Red Velvet because they experiment so much within their b-sides.

Likes/Dislikes
Let’s begin with what I liked...
- I think Red Velvet really lives up to their reputation of trying out many different sounds within their music and even if I didn’t necessarily like some of their more experimental songs I still appreciated them a lot.
- I think Wendy does have the strongest voice in the group, Seulgi has a lovely voice as well but Joy has my favorite voice out of all the members. She has a very soothing, soft, almost innocent sounding tone and I really fell in love with her voice.
- I’m very picky when it comes to female rappers in K-pop (really rappers in general) but I didn’t hate Yeri or Irene’s rapping. Sure there was some songs where I think it sounded off but I never dreaded hearing their rap verses.
And will end with dislikes...
(Again please remember this is just my opinion.)
- Most of their ballads were so meh to me… They have Wendy who is always recognized for her strong vocals and then you have the other girls who also have lovely voices but they always go with the more safer ballads. I wanted to hear something interesting and unfortunately I felt like that was missing from their discography.
- Their music for me personally is not as good as it was in their earlier days… It’s not bad but just not as strong to me, I literally wrote in my notes while listening to The Red album ‘Wow’ because I was so shocked at how much I loved that album and maybe it set my expectations too high for future releases but I prefer their older songs over their newer releases.

Final Thoughts:
Even though their more recent stuff wasn’t my favorite I loved that I gave their music a chance because it actually made me want to listen to more GG’s (I can hear all you GG stans cheering). I like that they switch between their two sides Red and Velvet but I think I prefer their Red side a little more over their Velvet side. Joy has a soft spot in my heart, I’ve seen her a few times in variety and liked her then but now that I’ve heard more of her voice… I just-

The Red is definitely my favorite album from them and some of my favorite songs of theirs is Body Talks, Cool World, Peek-a-boo, Dumb Dumb, and You Better Know. Will I ever stan?… As of right now, no I don’t like enough of their more recent stuff and I’ve become very picky recently on the groups I stan but I will always look forward to their new releases.
