I was given a cookbook with historical recipes and tried a recipe today. I didn’t get a good photo, but it’s a roast beef with a garlic sauce. The garlic sauce is made with eggs and vinegar, kinda similar to hollandaise sauce but with garlic. It’s from 1580s Transylvania so it’s pretty old It’s quite tasty

Dracula is based on Vlad Tepes (or Vlad 'The Impaler'), a 1400's ruler in the region that is now Romania who was famous for his brutal punishments. His fathers name was Vlad Dracul (meaning Vlad the Dragon) which was a patronymic name that the son would sometimes use (Meaning he inherited his fathers name but I'm unsure how the system for that worked at the time).

Yeah, Dracul was an inherited title that came from his father being in the Order of the Dragon (a chivalry group). Adding a to the end changed it from Order of the Dragon to son of the Order of the Dragon A pretty metal name to have tbh
