like others have mentioned, start small and focused
what's something you want to play around with? tinted lip balms are a fun way to start, and drugstore lipsticks and glosses are a cheap but fun way to experiment with colors and such, but it's really up to you
pencil eyeliner (stay away from black and go for a darker brown) is one way to get started with eye makeup that's impossible to mess up and you can also smudge it around as make do eyeshadow if you really wanted to, I'm personally not big into mascara but it makes all the difference if you have lighter hair
if foundation matching is a bit of a struggle and it's hard to find nearby department stores that can help you find matching ones for you, I would also give trying those neutralizing palettes a try
I think the best way to go about it if you want to go natural is to pinpoint one or two things that you want to balance out, for me it's my brows and length of my eyes
for example, my daily makeup routine after my toner is the slightest dab of liquid blush, then a mix of sunscreen moisturizer and a dot of concealer I mix on my fingers lmao, a bit of green color correcting for my rosacea, eyebrow pencil, gel eyeliner, some lipstick mixed with lip balm, and depending on my mood I might throw in some nude eyeshadow with the tiniest bit of glittery gold shimmer in my inner corners, some perfume that takes 10min max each day
