I have come across with at least three; mips, flops, and I don't remember the name of the third. From all of them MIPS means Millions of Instructions per Second if my memory is not playing me any tricks.

I was thinking about Flops, floating point operations per second, which was explained to me to mean instructions per second basically. I’m not a computer geek myself but I appreciated the name flops
