I was getting my new brace today and after I got it they went over the cost and such. Their first estimate had me like , it was quite a bit higher than I expected. They realized they made a mistake and recalculated the amount, and when they came back the new amount was half the price (still a lot imo, but Murica so I can't expect nice things medically). Even though it was still kind of high the fact that their new estimate was a decent amount lower definitely gave the feeling to me of "oh, that's better. Yeah I'll pay no problem". Kind of like when people ask for really big favors with the intention of asking for something smaller when the person goes wtf just because it'll seem better by comparison and they'll be more likely to do it

They showed me the cost breakdown and where it came from and it was pretty straightforwards and didn’t contain anything I didn’t receive or things like that. Nor is it ridiculously expensive either, it’s not like it’s even remotely close to being in the thousands, tbh if I forget and do a no show for a therapy session it costs about the same amount (still expensive in my eyes). I just feel eh about paying what I consider large amounts for medical stuff knowing that in some countries they get it for free (yes there may be downsides to that too but I like free)
