The current format in which their lore unfolds (through music videos and short clips) is amazing, don't get me wrong. Music is a brilliant way to tell a story, and LOONA are some of the best dancers in K-Pop today. I just can't help wishing for a LOONA TV show. If no one snatches up the rights to a LOONA show/movie adaptation before I conquer Hollywood (haha, my dream), I have lots of interesting ideas.

The opening scene would be of Heejin, naturally. Although not necessarily what BBC are going for, I have my own interpretation of her solo that I think is pretty well-founded by the events of her solo: Heejin can get possessed by all the other girls. It's more of an ability than a curse, and this is how she can bridge the gap between the rest of LOONA.

Again, although this may be not the story BBC intend to convey with her solo, what happens in it doesn't contradict this interpretation.

MY REASONING FOR THIS INTERPRETATION:

  1. Starting at 0:11, Heejin appears in a elegant, dark gothic dress similar to Gowon's. She speaks French for some reason. Although Yves and Gowon as characters both heavily borrow from French culture and aesthetics, Gowon is the only one between them who's actually canonically spoken French... in a way. There's a random French line in Haseul's solo "Let Me In," and the XXIX teaser from January shows Gowon at the site of the airplane crash that Haseul's solo took place in. (see here: ) Ergo, it seems more likely that the French line in Heejin's solo (especially paired with her Gowon-like clothing) can be traced back to Gowon. Notably, Heejin's eyes are never shown in these particular frames where she's acting like Gowon, while her eyes are shown clearly in the rest of the MV. Don't they say that eyes are the windows to one's soul? What if you're being possessed by someone else's? (Also, her solo has lots of French-ness to it, too. Strange that Yves and Gowon would share this commonality with a normal human girl from the 1/3 sub-unit.)
  2. Her reflections on the mirrors at 1:53 all move differently from each other. Almost like they aren't reflecting just one person.
  3. Both the song and MV prominently feature rainbows as a motif. You know, an extensive spectrum of color. (And each LOONA girl has her own representative color; color is important in the LOONAverse.) This is not a theme for any other LOONA girl.
  4. Unlike the yyxy or ODD EYE CIRCLE girls, she seems to be an entirely normal teenage girl. Yet she's the one who finds and approaches the ambiguously nonhuman Olivia Hye, with self-assured confidence to boot, at the end of Olivia's solo "Egoist." This is a striking contrast to, say, Heejin's fellow 1/3 member Haseul; who meets Chuu by sheer happenstance, and appears to be bemused by her encounter with Chuu.

I've never seen this theory at all. I really like thinking of her solo this way. I would love to open a LOONA TV series with that. But the expanded backstory for this would be that Heejin is a human girl, but has this ability for some reason. She hasn't been in touch with this ability for a long time, however, getting busy with navigating the turmoils of adolescence and school. At this point, she may be thinking her "ghost sightings" back when she was a child were just tricks of her imagination.

Then at one party she attends, she takes drugs. Peer pressure and all that. But instead of the usual effects on her, she's tossed back into her "vivid" supernatural connection while on drugs. It wears off and she finds herself in a bathtub — must've been some wild trip, she figures, but then she learns none of the rest, including her best friend Hyunjin, really experienced any strong effects from the drugs. Perhaps they're fakes (they're each just high school students trying to seem cool, after all), or perhaps the drugs were simply not that strong. So Heejin realizes the drugs had nothing to do with her state in the bathtub and that her powers are returning. She must then uncover the reasons as to why they're being activated again.

This is getting so long already, so I'll mostly cut it off here. In my show, Yves would be a trans bisexual girl (also quite well-supported by canon, if not necessarily what BBC were going for); Chuu is a lesbian; and the ODD EYE CIRCLE girls are bisexual superheroine legends.

A girl can dream, right?
