Are there any other idols with inspiring backstories? I would love to hear them!

Idols in general are inspiring people. They go through so much hate and have to do so much work and there are way too many cases of company mistreatment. But are there any idols that had an inspiring backstory leading up to their debut or even their point of fame?

For me, Jihyo is a good example. Very long story short, she trained for 10 years and when she was finally set to debut, they scrapped that and did SIXTEEN in 2015. This group would've been called 6Mix and would consist of Jihyo, Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Minyoung, later Sana (because one of the former members dropped out), and two other female trainees that we haven't seen (this is why Nayeon, Jeongyeon, and Jihyo's trio ship name is 3Mix). So this discouraged all of them and Nayeon talked about how much that hurt. But if they debuted and SIXTEEN never happened, we would never get Twice with 9 members.

But Jihyo had also gained some weight because of the stress of having to train for 10 years, be promised to debut, and now have that chance be risked again. She got hate for it too. A lot. Even after her debut, she got hate for still being "too chubby" for Korea's standards (and idols and other celebrities are supposed to be the models of appearances). She even got hate from the judges and photographer from SIXTEEN. Pretty much every judge judged her for it except for JYP who saw the potential in her talent and not only because of looks (though she was gorgeous then. If she was ugly, I'm a pig. And that's an insult to pigs)

Despite all of this, she was determined to have the best body (and succeeded), became one of the best leaders in KPOP of one of the most popular groups ever, and eventually got her solo debut and gained a whole lot of fans over the year


Also a special shoutout to Somi as well. She got a lot of hate for being biracial in South Korea and was bullied for it in school. But she prevailed and became one of the most successful soloists and center of I.O.I.

Taeyong and Shinee come to mind for similar reasons.
Taeyong started out as a terrible dancer, he was put in the back because of it and his dance trainer thought he would never debut because he was supposedly hopeless. Now’s he’s one of the main dancers in a group known for having strong dance overall.
Shinee were originally supposed to be a rap group because apparently their vocals were really bad. They went on to be known for having some of the best vocals in kpop.

Woah, that's so cool! I had no idea! Also, training can do wonders for some people. That's why I don't believe it when a lot of people say they can't sing, draw, dance, etc. Most of them are capable, they just need more practice.

It reminds me of Tzuyu. It's hard to say she was exceptional in talent pre-debut either. I won't say that she was there solely because of her looks but she wasn't the greatest. But she became a lead dancer and overall has improved tremendously in vocals and dancing. She was only 16 at the time and that's a lot to put on her.
