This is funny cause I read a fanfic a few days ago that had a bunch of turtle facts in it but apparently turtles shells are part of there bones and there ribs and spine is inside so if a turtle lost its shell it would die

The shell IS attached on a real turtle, right? It's not a cartoon where the body slips out and has the shell worn like a backpack.

It seems so. This image just barely cuts it off but in the right image it looks like it means to say “vertebrae fused to carapace”. Carapace is what the upper turtle shell is called. So if this is correct it’s attached through the vertebrae at minimum.
