I will be very sad, especially for my other fave EXO. It's bad for the branding of their artists. One of the things people like to throw out against Big 3 artists are their so-called Big 3 Privilege but there's a reason they're there: they're the cream of the crop. I'm not saying this to put other groups from non-Big 3 agencies down but if SM gets downgraded to a sub-label, RV, EXO, SNSD, and SuJu will be on the same level as the groups selling well right now even if they aren't part of the Big 3.
Is this a bad thing? Marketing-wise, yes, especially they come from a culture and industry where reputation is everything. It's like asking Taylor Swift to headline a local university concert in my country, which will never happen because she's already Taylor Swift. There's PR and reputation 🐍 management (see what I did there?) to think about.
Idealistically? It shouldn't even be an issue at all but business is business, which is why some brands cater to the masses and some don't. It's like setting boundaries for yourself, except you're a brand.
