My parents haven't been perfect but I still love them for everything they've done, and honestly I could learn a lot from them. Considering where they came from, I couldn't expect them to be any more understanding than they already were, it's hard to change your beliefs after you spend decades believing a certain way due to your upbringing.
I guess I'd just give my child a little more freedom and willingness to explore different things and figure out what it is they truly want to do in life rather than suggest here's what you should do coz it's good for you.
