Relationships are a give-take situation.

Don't expect your partner to go above and beyond for you when you don't do anything like that for them.

At that point you're just being a leech.

I've never understood a relationship based on materialism in general since if I want something I buy it for myself rather than wanting to rely on others. The most important thing for me in any relationship is just spending time with them

also i feel like even people in relationships undermine the importance of communication and transparency and i absolutely hate that. like things aren't gonna go well if you guys aren't at a mutual clarified agreement on pretty much anything.

I feel like (in my experience at least) that this knowledge goes unspoken between each other and communication is there to always be used and accepted with a healthy discussion if needed if something is not getting across. materialistic things and gifts, sure they're nice but that's not the foundation that keeps a relationship and connection strong
