yes, i have had braces for almost three years now, and i'm getting them off in 2 days, i'm so excited, my teeth look so good!
but anyway, yes, it will hurt for a few days when you first get them, but as time passes by, your teeth will get used to the wires and they will stop hurting until you get your wires adjusted at the next visit.
when you get your braces on, they usually give you a little plastic thing that has some wax in it, and you use the wax for when your wires start poking your mouth a little bit. you have to brush your teeth after every meal, and whenever you consume something sugary like soda or candy, always rinse your mouth out with lukewarm water afterwards. try not to eat foods that can break your wires or brackets, like caramel or chewy and super hard foods like hard candy or popcorn, because that stuff can break your wires and brackets and they are hell to clean out because the wires are blocking your teeth. that's pretty much all i can tell you, because once you get them on, your orthodontist will basically give you a paper that has a bunch of directions on how to take care of your teeth and braces, and they will demonstrate how to brush your teeth a certain way and other stuff. the fun part about getting braces is that every time you go to get your braces adjusted, you get to pick a new color of elastics, and after 2 or so years, your teeth will look really good.
