i think my cat’s (Odin) leg is sprained. She’s walking weird and she keeps meowing in pain when she moves it too much
my mom just says to keep a watch on her
and my mom is cheap and doesnt take animals to the vet unless it’s really bad

take her to the vet anyway. if she's in pain, it's probably serious.

if people take a pet, it is your responsibility to take care of that pet, even when it's something "minor".
Your mom should either take the cat to the vet, or don't have any pets at all.

My bunny eats less than usual every time he sheds and I always go to the vet (even when I know his diagnosis because he's had it so much already), even in weekends when I have to pay double, because I'm responsible for this creature and his wellbeing. I made that commitment.
I'm not rich, I have a house on my own that I have to pay for and a job in a field that's underpaid, but I'll happily pay for my bun's wellbeing.
Even if I can't pay, I know I can call my mom and she'll send me the money right away and I won't even have to pay it back because she loves that bunny to death.

A pet doesn't cry in pain if they don't need attention. If your mom is at all susceptible to being judged, you could try asking "what would (your friend) think of you leaving (cat) in pain like this?"

You should definitely do all you can to get the cat seen to by a vet. If there is something seriously wrong, you need to catch it early to prevent a potential life-long issue (such as a lame leg in this case).


But if it makes you feel any better, I was sure my cat had a broken leg once. It was horrible. I took her to the vet, they took an x-ray. She turned out to be fine in the end. After about a week she started to heal.
