The Nazi's wanted to depopulate eastern Europe to have more living space for Germans. It's a natural extension of their fascist white supremist ideology that they would want to increase the birth rate.

I feel like the US thing is different though. Yeah you get the $2,200 in tax credits, but you’re also now spending hundreds of thousands of dollars raising a child. So you don’t actually have anything resembling a gain in that sense, you just lose a tiny tiny bit less from it.

For the Soviet stuff yeah, they did modify a lot of cultural practices with a socialist flavor. But under Stalin the push for mothers having more kids was explicitly to have more workers for an industrial society, especially after the Holodomor. So it was actually nearly identical to the Nazi versions as an idea.

The minimum number to get any medal was 4 kids, though in order to have Hitler himself give it to you is more complicated. There really a set number for that so much as factors needed to make the propaganda aspect worth it.
