Incorporating nicknames/shipnames in kpop (1 Viewer)

I think its cute that kpop idols always roll with the punches and seem to try to use names given to them by fans.

I'll give examples from Twice because I know them best, but I'm sure it is similar for most groups
For example "Peach Sisters" for momo and nayeon or SaiDa for the Sana/Dahyun ship.

That stuff also gets used a lot in the offical translations for yt videos, so the companies also support to spread it

While I think its cute and hope the idols also like it, sometimes I'm worried some idols might go along with nicknames / ships they actually hate, just to please us fans :/

What do you think on the matter, do you also like those nicknames / ships are incorporated by the idols or do you know of cases where an idol used nicknames they disliked?

They don’t call Dreamcatcher Gaycatcher for nothing. Recently though fans have been pushing back on it since none of the members have shared their sexuality publicly, so it gets weird when people keep calling them that.

they are definitely a very “hands on” group

i think it's a bit weird when people call their idols gay when they have not stated their sexuality or even hints at it and most of the "proofs" are just them being friendly. i get people joke around and all but there's a very fine line in joking when these kinds of topics are involved...

a lot of the times idols find their nicknames for themselves i think? but if not it's often a combination of all names which is really not that bad, it's just what fans associate with the nicknames that might make them uncomfortable towards it

SaiDa is adorable, and now I know what to call my two biases in Twice! As for my answer though, I fortunately haven’t heard of any cases where the idols in question hate it, but I do think there needs to be reasonable limits in place.

Okay, never mind, I do know one time. Some Stays a few years ago used to call Minho Meanh*e because a lot of people think he’s mean at first for some reason, and also because of his popular ship with Jisung. I shouldn’t need to explain why nicknames like that are wrong. Sure enough, he found out about it, and told Stays that he was hurt by names like those and to please quit using them. Thankfully, Stays did and haven’t used such horrible names for him since, or at least not nearly as often.

Yeah I get you sometimes you wanna have these groups be your champion you know so you call them whatever for your own sake. Siyeon of Dreamcatcher has responded really well to fans calling for her to be their husband. As long as you’re not forcing it too much and the group is actually comfortable, then it could be harmless.

I don’t know honestly, I wasn’t a Stay when it happened, only heard about it after the fact, so I don’t know for sure what their intentions were, but I really hope you’re right.
