Gordon Moore, co-founder of the American semiconductor company Intel and the man who proposed the "Moore's Law" that semiconductor performance doubles every two years, has died.

On Jan. 2, Intel announced that Moore passed away peacefully at his home in Hawaii that day under the watchful eyes of his family.

"It's impossible to imagine the world we live in today, where computers are so important, without Gordon Moore's contributions," Intel said, "and we will be remembered as brilliant scientists and clever entrepreneurs who made the world better and always strived to do the right thing."

Moore founded Intel in July 1968 with Robert Noyce, whom he met while working at the semiconductor lab. In 7, he was appointed Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, serving as Chairman until 1979. In 1987, Moore became chairman emeritus, and resigned in 1997. He is credited with growing Intel into a global semiconductor company.

Moore drew attention in 1965 when he predicted the so-called "Moore's Law," which states that the density of transistors stacked in semiconductor integrated circuits doubles about every two years.

He was also active in charitable work. He and his wife, Betty Moore, founded the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation in 2 and have donated more than $2.2000 billion (51.6 trillion won) to charity.
