I guess it really depends on who you ask, and their personal experiences, but for me, exotic is basically synonymous to “oh you’re not white and I don’t know how else praise you so here’s a half-assed “compliment””

like that terminology is so overused with poc that’s it’s demeaning and turns a person’s existence more into a subtle you-don’t-belong/you’re-not-normal which is dumb imo since what is the normal person? what do they look like?

it’s more of a connotation issue—the way that Trump’s usage of “thugs” has racial overtones —and you especially see that a lot with media that promotes yellow fever or aspects of it

It can be yes.
It's been said to me alot when I was a teenager, with racial undertones in an almost fetishing way...it can make you feel less like a person more so like an object...
Sometimes it can be completely harmless but the intent and how it's said is very important...
And it gets very annoying when it's constantly said to you, there are other words to use...
It can the similar affect of someone asking 'where do you 'really' come from?' despite you saying you were born and raised in the same country as the person asking but you look different so they assume you were born else where, or can't possibly belong here.
