India - 68 million tons
United States - 19 million tons
Japan - 8 million tons
Germany - 6 million tons
France - 5 million tons

From what I found; it seems like Canada wastes about 2.94 million tons annually. It's not as much compared to the countries like India and China, but I think that there's still a long road ahead to lower that number. I would say that it's a problem though, I think all of the countries need to figure out a way to lower these numbers but it's definitely a big challenge.

Most of this list is to be expected imo. I think it’s probably a problem in most countries. But obviously a lot of these make sense because of their higher populations. San Marino with a population of 33k won’t possibly be able to have as much waste as India for example (1.4 billion). But it’s not always the case that higher populations have more waste (Mexico didn’t make it onto this list while the less populous Japan did). But that definitely plays a role in how much waste there is.

Some people claim that one reason Florida oranges are often used for juice and Californian for whole oranges is because the peel of Californian oranges are more uniform and pretty while Florida oranges are more often uglier. But realistically I get the impression that Florida oranges are juicier but harder to peel properly so look is probably not the only reason, if it’s even an actual reason. People seemed to argue about this topic.
