Is there a difference between bias and solo stanning? (1 Viewer)

Personally, I’d say yes. I feel a bias is your favourite member from a group, though you might follow them individually as well. Solo stanning, however I think Is where you don’t follow the other members of the group only the one you Stan.

I agree wholeheartedly, Sam! A bias is just your favorite member while you stan the whole group, and that's a good thing. I think solo stanning is when the only reason you're into a group is that one member, and imo that's not how stanning should go.

I think of it as like a partner. If you only like the partner, say, because he's into BTS like you are and nothing else, you don't really like him as a person. And the same goes for solo stanning - if you only stan Jimin and not RM, J-Hope, or the others, you don't really like BTS as a group.

I think you can technically say that you "only bias" one member of a group but it's true that most people consider only following one member to be solo stanning. If you say you only follow Jungkook from BTS therefore he's your bias, you can technically say that he is your bias but usually a bias is picked when you look at all of the members out of the whole and pick a favorite. If you don't pay attention to the others at all or the group at all then you're a solo stan.

For example for myself
I would say I rarely solo stan because even if I don't stan a group, often I will know a couple members names and be generally aware of their existence. The closest I can come is the fact that I solo stanned fx's Amber but that's mostly because fx doesn't release music together anymore. And even then I really only paid attention to Amber

Yeah as a bias entails that you like the rest of the group while solo stanning means you only like that particular member of a group

While i learned about bias/stans when i fell into SNSD in 2018, i dint know abt solo stans until maybe much l8r in mid to late 2019 maybe. It only became mind-boggling when i thot abt it this way, i think there were McCartney only or Lennon only Beatles fans when they were in their heyday (tho i wasnt born yet, i knew abt The Beatles as a kid n listened to them on the radio. Werent there solo stans then n not a problem at the time? How abt 1D n Harry Styles only, or Louis Tomlinson or Zane Malik only fans? (Im too old to be a 1D stan but my niece liked them as i rmbr).

So i think bias/solo stans is just normal human behaviour, as all members contribute to the grp even if so called solo stans dont acknowledge/attribute all members. Sounds almost like solo Beatles/1D fans to me, so i just leave 'em be now(i may hv been slightly more vehement against solo stanning in late 2019/early 2020 but iv mellowed somewat). I dont think its a big deal rn, n if a grp lasts 7 yrs n someone only cares abt 1 member - who cares? Not me. At least not anymore.
