recently i had this idea of sharing worst pop culture phenomena from my country and asking fellow ks'ers whether you guys heard of something similar, even if these threads flop ngl this kind of storytelling is my favourite and i feel like a journalist or something :ummm:

this thread goes out to every employed user who has to listen to the radio at work like all the time, i recently became one of those people after my workplace chose to switch from some non copyright music to the most basic radio station which inspired me to ask you guys - does your country also have a thing for the cheapest, trashy "covers" of classic songs and is trying to forcibly make it happen? like literally, think of any song - and i guarantee that its worst remix is getting airplay in poland.

a 2010s catchy tune from paramore? we got you, here's a tacky edm cover

a classic abba song? well we won't give you the original but here is a version from 2006!

a 60s ballad that literally everyone knows? polish radio brought out a REMIX of a COVER VERSION like that's twice the torture... pls don't click play unless you hate yourself

....and there's so much more than this :irenecrazy: to those who listen to music in public spaces whether it's by choice or not - is it also as abhorrent as the given examples? is "trashy cover" also the new hottest genre in your area or should it earn a "made in poland" badge? :siyeonconfused:

I actually like Disturbed's TSOS cover but wtf is that remix??
Also, I'm technically unemployed so no, but I'm so sorry
yeah the cover is actually listenable, not my genre of music but i like the vocals and here... yeah no words
it's one thing to listen to it at work... now imagine people willingly tuning into that and listening to that shit in their homes :stare:

haha at a job I had in 2014, they used to put on our local mixed music station (music from the '80s onwards), and we all loved it because it was something everyone could agree on. Unfortunately, that was the year Happy by Pharrell became popular. I say unfortunately because... well, let's back it up. Every time that song played, our boss would let us get up and dance to it because she was fun like that. But then, the higher-ups found out and made my workplace switch to the oldies station. I mean, I can tolerate oldies because that's basically what I grew up on, but I'd pick contemporary any day!
