Yesterday my mum received some scan results, and was told she’d most likely need surgery (she had a hernia that is stuck to her bowel). We were told to pop into the surgical assessment unit at the hospital in the morning and chat with a surgeon about the options.

When we got there I waited an hour outside in the corridor (wasn’t allowed in the department) for mum to be seen by somebody. She reappeared an hour later, to tell me that she hadn’t seen a surgeon, but had some bloods taken. She then said we could leave the department for a while as it’d take around two hours for the results. Went to get a hot chocolate (water only for her) and stayed in that area for just over an hour before going back. I was again sat outside, and then after another hour mum came back out to say a surgeon had spoken to her, and she was being admitted today. I ended up coming home to get her some stuff (two buses to get home and back)

I got home a little while ago, to then get a phone call from mum to say that it was likely she’d be having surgery either tonight (currently 7:50pm my time) or tomorrow morning.

I’m exhausted and now worried about her, I’ve barely eaten anything all day and now I need to call relatives (including my Grandma) about what’s happening.

Hospital system is several backed up and understaffed.

More than likely, it's probably nothing of concern.

Good luck to you and your mom!

gurl relax now, eat and drink something, your mum is gonna be fine, just keep a check thats all :petthepanda:
My sister cooked some pasta for when I got home, so eaten that. She has other health problems too (my ‘job’ is her carer) so I had take her medications to the doctors on the ward she’s ended up on along with her things. She had hernia surgery a few years ago too, so at least she knows what to expect when she goes down.
